I can't say that I really understand why the official start date would be...or need to be such a secret... Doug, Unlike most WCG phase 2 launches this one is linked to some Communication Plan(s), at least in France. Therefore the start date is not unveiled in order to not interfere with the Communication team(s). Cheers. Jean. |

Decrypthon team alone has an average of delivering around 800k results a day, and the busiest projects receive around 70k results a day. Flavio, you are overestimating the power of our team: 800k is our good days for WCG points, not results! But it's true that most people in our team have been waiting for this HCMD phase 2 launch for long. And several others like boulmontjj's team France are very impatient too. Most of us follow or participate to the French Telethon every year and are willing to do anything which could help all children (and some adults too) that we see so courageous and with a bright morale on our TV screens every year. Cheers. Jean. Edit: Changed "moral" to "morale". This is a faux ami for French or English speaking people: in French we have the same words but their spelling is just the opposite... ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at Apr 6, 2009 11:48:07 AM] |

Yes, you are right!
----------------------------------------I think was looking at the all-time results instead. Sorry about that, I was kind of sleepy by then. Correct average is 972 results delivered per day. ;-) Anyway, it's a long-awaited project and everybody is eager to give their contributions! Hi everybody,
----------------------------------------I fully understand the impatience of many WCG-members. For those who are able to read French document, I warmly recommend the reading of the PhD-work of Raphaël Bolze (PhD2008-09.pdf, December 2009) at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, France. This document shows and explains the huge work (investigation, simulation, etc.) what has to be done prior to release a grid computing project. It is important to understand how many intensive and complex tasks must be completed for launching a new project phase. Additionally, based on the mentioned PhD-document, the running time is estimated by 1 year and 9 months (around 458 centuries of CPU time ) This estimation relies on the experiences and the intensity of member involvement during the first HCMD phase. If it is wished to speed up the work for HCMD2 (e.g. unil 40 weeks only), the project needs the unfailing support of 1'200'000 new WCG members (if 4 projects, additionally to HCMD2, run concurrently). As you can see, nothing is so simple and easy as it seems to be. Cheers, Yves |

...all the more reason to stop dragging the chain. I am sure everyone involved is working as hard as they can to get this project launched ![]() |

...all the more reason to stop dragging the chain And all the more reason, to just be that bit more patient... I'm sure that everyone behind the scenes is working as hard as they possibly can to get this next phase of the project up and running - although I'm sure that no one want's any stages to be skipped/have to be reworked, just due to over-eagerness... I can hear all the shouts now, when WU's begin failing due to inadequate testing/preparation time... (something that I'm sure, no one wants). After all, it's far better just to have to make the journey once, than have to stop and retrace your steps... Basically, we're all keen as mustard, and when the time comes, we'll be here to 'crunch away' as quick as we can ![]() ![]() |
