Re: .

Evening all

Picked up a wireless router this afternoon but leaving it on one side 'till I feel strong enough to fiddle around with all the new settings. A guy was up the telegraph pole again this morning so I'll have to see whether the previous work did add to the connection problems.

Not sure I understand what a Wireless router is going to do for you Ivan.
Your T'internet connection comes into your house via the phone socket thence to your Router at present hard wired to your computer ?
Come the day of enlightenment lets call it WR day all of the above applies excepting the hard wire bit replaced by the signal passing to the computer via the ether and a wireless dongle.
All well and good if your provider PROVIDES the steady signal along the bit of wire . Men up poles dont look too good but I would think any fault is back at the exchange ?
Any way its time for my Cod liver oil and Malt, nite, nite.

Re: .

Evening all

I think my problem Den is the strength of the signal. I have quite a long lead from the ground floor plug and, although this worked successfully for a number of years, just recently it started getting the jitters.
My provider assures me the signal from the exchange is OK but, since the latest work there, the signal strength is clearly a little lower and so, with my fairly long hard wire connection it is finding it difficult. So, hopefully, going wireless and so avoiding the hard wire connection it will get its strength back.
The only alternative is to go for a cable connection. It's all part of life's rich pattern.

I prefer things simple 'any thing for a quiet life' myself, same with mobile telephones, if I want a camera I buy one, if I want something all singing and dancing I go to the local theatre, that way if it goes wrong I either bash it or sling it! biggrin
