Re: Yorkshire bandits Recruiting Now

Hi Dave,

Can't make it to the Yorkshire show this year, maybe next.

Just had a cracking weekend though:-
1. Waddington Airshow
2. Lots of sunshine
3. Andy Murray won Wimbledon
4. Abu Qatada deported.

Result!

p.s. been to Jordan many years ago for work. Gorgeous country, met lots of really great folk, including the Red Arrows team who stayed in the same hotel for 1 night.

Roger.

Re: Yorkshire bandits Recruiting Now

Tour de Yorkshire to kick off with “Get thisen off then”

With just 365 days to the start of the Tour de Yorkshire more details have been released of the struggles the riders will face.

Organisers have already rejected an offer from famous Yorkshire artist Ashley Jackson to design the artwork and branding for the event, saying his pictures were far too dismal, even though it was spitting at the time.

In accordance with local tradition, all cycle helmets will be of the flat cap style and all external branding will be banned. This may make it a little more difficult to identify individuals in the pack, but they will be a lot safer anyway if they stick together through certain areas of Huddersfield.

During lunch breaks visitors from overseas will be able to enjoy such traditional snap as bread and drip, corned beef sarny’s and tripe, washed down with homemade ginger ale. Suggestions that this was just a ploy to disadvantage the top European competitors (used to high energy drinks) were rejected by Gary Verity, who pointed out that the Triathlete Brownlee brothers ate this every day, and besides it was the French who invented the abomination that was Garlic Bread.

Betting on the race is expected to be very popular along the route, with good odds on such events as first rider to puke and rider who eats the most pies.

The often inclement weather on the hills may be expected to play a part but riders will be issued with a pakamac and the leading riders will all have a yellow gansy to keep them warm. Snow sticks at the side of the road are to be repainted soon so they can be seen through the low cloud (summer fog). Holme Valley mountain rescue team will be on high alert during the climb over Holme Moss, not wishing to repeat the fiasco from 1985 when the milk race went through the valley. Over 100 riders attempted the climb but only 65 appeared at the other side. Some are still being held hostage in ginnels around Hebden Bridge.

Re: Yorkshire bandits Recruiting Now

Definitely Ginnels and not Snickets around these parts too.

Best thing about the Tour De France Yorkshire.... the potholes are being fixed biggrin

Though maybe too soon another winter like the last and ....

Potholes deeper than Gaping Ghyll cars simply vanishing never to be seen again biggrin

The thought of Cavendish et al disappearing down one of the holes in Yorkshire's roads - live on TV- finally seems to have spurred them into action

Call me a cynic whistling

Is Waddington the American Airbase thinking

Wadington is just south of Lincoln. One of the biggest airshows left in UK. "RAF Waddington is the main operating base for airborne intelligence systems including the Sentinel R1 and the E-3D Sentry. "

Re: Yorkshire bandits Recruiting Now

Yes that video was from the Friday, appeared on liveleak first a couple of days ago but now also on BBC news. We were sat on the fence but none came that low the day we were there. Waddington is pretty big - they had 78,000 visitors on one day.

Yes the roads are being fixed all along the route of the tour, good for me because I drive a bit of it every day!

I have been down Gaping Ghyll (about 30 years ago). Could get a few cathedrals in there never mind a few cars!

Re: Yorkshire bandits Recruiting Now

rogerggbr I'm more the above ground kind of person

Most weekends in my Childhood i spent in the Dales or the Lakes

It's amazing what tectonic plate pressures, pre-historic volcanic activity, millions of years of ocean floor deposition, the odd glacial gouge, weathering plus water erosion can do to a place biggrin

It makes it beautiful smile

I received a great grounding in geology and numerous great views from the top.

That's my first month completed

We could use some assistance around here we're up to 4,211th by points

3000th by this time next month should be doable and then...

Don't forget we are quite competitive

Re: Yorkshire bandits Recruiting Now

Yes I thought all the articles putting Yorkshire in the medal table as a country were excellent. If only we could have beaten Australia. Maybe next time.

Re: Yorkshire bandits Recruiting Now

rogerggbr I have had to scale back I have just had a electricity bill that says

"During the next 12 months, we estimate that your electricity costs will be £3072.87"

Which is 80KWh a day every day apparently.

There is only 1 of me and I'm at work Monday through Friday and asleep for at least 6 1/2 hours a day

So while we can still (very unusually) see the Sun in Yorkshire and my crunchers are not helping keep my 2 bedroom flat warm (not exactly Buckingham Palace) the tyke in me has had to be a bit frugal. So instead of ravenously making easy pickings of the finest Work Units the WCG can offer, my most greenest of number crunchers are being switched off while I'm paying the 19.53p/KWh day rate NPower are calling their Super Tariff. Which as I have had to explain to them is anything but Super biggrin

Blatant Rip Off Tariff wink would be closer to the mark which I'm stuck on until I can change my meter as they are unable to do simple maths despite a KWh being a KWh whatever time of day it is. Daft meter has night, day and an extra 2 cheap hours (2pm till 4pm) I can't use effectively because I'm at Work. You have to laugh.

Which reminds me
