What is everyone getting from Tiger Direct?
----------------------------------------I want to do more crunching than I currently am doing. I'm doing okay, just want to do more. :) I've thought about buying a new desktop, but mine isn't but a year old. It's a decent one, to say the least. If I bought a new desktop, how would I hook it up to run just wcg on it? Are there other things I could do with my current desktop? Lots of questions here.. just think of it as trying to educate a brick.. lol Dr. Mike.. ![]() ![]() |

I'm getting messages this morning that I need to activate Vista. I tried and it fails because the product key is in use. I guess the recovery disk didn't work either.I'm boxing it up and sending it back to TD today and then filing a "formal" complaint about IBP with TD and Microsoft. When TD credits my account, I will buy a new one from a "reputable" company. ![]() Wow! Sorry to hear that (especially since I have one on the way). I hope your complaints bear fruit. It looks like this has been a problem for at least one other person as reported in their forums here. Unfortunately the guy doesn't say what fixed it for him. OK, now I am really, Really, REALLY, REALLY impressed with Tiger Direct. I called them to see what my return options were. Asked for a supervisor. Seems one of my options was for them to take care of the problem with the manufacturer. Within the half hour, I got an email with a new product key. I am now activated!!! I guess Tiger Direct DOES NOT have to wait in IBP's call queue. TD will be getting more of my business!!!! IBP will not.![]() Great to hear they got it resolved. I've been buying from TigerDirect for a while now, but never had to go to their customer service. What contacts I have had with them have been with their sales department and they have been super to work with. I guess that's why they have $3400 or so of my money over the past year! Once again I'm so sorry about recommending IBP. I still love them and my quad is a dream machine. But I totally understand how pissed you are. The reason they sell the same machines as Alienware for 500 less is that they have literally NO tech support. |

While the price is good, Dataman had some problems with it that are now corrected, although it left a bitter taste in his mouth for iBuyPower PC's as you can see reading earlier posts. Hopefully, I will not experience them. I am going to use a KVM switch with it which allows you to share the keyboard, video monitor and mouse (hense KVM) between the systems. I will connect it to my router so that it has access to the internet and I plan to pretty much only run WCG on it 24/7. The system I am using on my desktop is only just over a year old as is yours, and I can do all the other things I need to on it for now. I am pretty sure that Keith is getting a new Lenovo. |

If you keep your quad clean of other programs and files, you'll scream through work units. I was putting up 12k a day on my quad when i first got it! |

Hey all, check out our new post over at PS3grid.net
http://www.ps3grid.net/team_display.php?teamid=678 In less than 2 days I've already earned 6,464 BOINC credits. That turns into 45,248 WCG points all on my graphics card (temp under 65C!). |

Are there other things I could do with my current desktop? I'm not sure what you mean by "things". Do you mean other projects? While the price is good, Dataman had some problems with it that are now corrected, although it left a bitter taste in his mouth for iBuyPower PC's as you can see reading earlier posts. I've no problem with the PC other than it was shipped without a license and the recovery disk had a reused license. My problem is with a company that cannot/will not support what it sells. I guess that's why they need TD and Amazon. Once again I'm so sorry about recommending IBP. I still love them and my quad is a dream machine. But I totally understand how pissed you are. The reason they sell the same machines as Alienware for 500 less is that they have literally NO tech support. No need for that Jonathan. The PC is fine. I like the PC other than the bright blue "spot light" I disconnected. As I get more valid WU's in, my HP's are slightly outperforming it though. I didn't need tech support ... I needed a valid license for the machine.![]() ![]() |

The upkeep in minimum, its processor is 16X faster than my quad processor and it doesn't require a monitor (plugs into your tv). All you need is a USB keyboard and a USB flashstick. |
