Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 25 smilesmile

The Gateway problem is definately not heat. It shut down in the night and just watched it shut down @ 42C this morning. Taking it offline. Bummer ... I added 4 core just to have to subtract 4 cores. I'll run some diag's on it when I have some time. Maybe I can fix it or just take a shotgun to it. laughing biggrin laughing biggrin

Morning all.

Check the voltage rails on the power supply, it might be failing. sad

Thanks much Vincent. I’ll stash that away for future reference. I’ve got my fingers crossed that I resolved the problem (trial and error ... my favorite way wink ). I changed some BIOS settings. Changed the Processor Zone Damper from Normal to Slow and turned off EIST. This combination seemed to have worked. The CRAPway PC has been running since 09:00 this morning and the temp has dropped to 37C. If it runs for 24 hours I will step up the processor utilization 5% at a time from 75% to see if I can get back to 100%. But if not, I figure 75% of 4 cores is better than 0% of 4 cores. I don’t understand why it worked but I’ll take success over knowledge. laughing

I agree it is hot. devilish It is too early to get this hot. It is 84.8F here and my get a bit warmer before sunset. But since it ~6F warmer than yesterday, I’m hoping my fix worked on the CRAPway.

Thanks again for digging up the info for me. smile coffee

Easiest way to check the voltages, DM, is at the 20/24 pin connector from the PSU. You can probe each very easily while hooked up and running. All the black wires in the plug are grounds. The 5% rule applies to minus voltages as well.

Maybe your next rig will be a DIY. That way you get to choose all the components.

Thanks for the info [gunner]. I'll stash it away ... but have no desire to build one. Am better with software. biggrin The Crapway has been running near 11 hours now. Think I may have fixed it. Go figure. confused

Beautiful day @ 85.1F ... but that means I will be a lobster in a pot in July. laughing biggrin

No clue what that Processor Zone Damper is but the EIST steps down the CPU multiplier and lowers its speed when not needed. We disable that since it messes up overclocking.

Not all that sure myself but has to do with what type of cooling system you have and seems to contol temp shutdown. But then Crapway gets it's BIOS from the low bidder in China. laughing biggrin laughing biggrin

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 25 smilesmile

It would seem Dataman engineered quite a jail break today. Nice day! It is a bit early to be certain but we may be seeing a bit of an uptick in the number of members returning a result each day. It would seem that Dave got waylaid at the VA for a few days for some IV antibiotics. That's how they treat things if the infection is bad enough. Still, as long as they work, he should be back home in a few days. Also, remember that we need folks to share why they crunch here. We all have different reasons and different stories. Let's get ours out on our website. Let me know (here or offline) if you want to share yours.
