If it wasn't for bad luck ... I'd have no luck at all.
----------------------------------------![]() This was such a frustrating day. First, I was awakened at 03:00 this morning to the screaming of 3 UPS’s and two barking dogs. We had a localized power outage that lasted 4 hours. I lost the equivalent of 120 hours of crunching. Two of the UPS’s took up the load and I was able to shutdown 8 machines. The other UPS, which is overloaded, only lasted about 90 seconds and those 4 machines crashed. To my surprise, when I recovered the network I did not lose any of the 30 WU’s in process. BOINC works!! Then my new quad arrived and was DOA right out of the box. It wouldn’t boot and the HD does not spin. Either the HD is dead or the power supply is weak. So I had to send it back. ![]() Poor results for today's posting should complete the "hat trick". ![]() I should post this in the Whiner's Thread. ![]() @Ady: Yep, I'll be watching for him. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Ok Dataman, I see that the Le masque username was created back in Feb. and they joined Bravo the same day. After crunching there for about six weeks, that looks to be when they went out on their own with the Angel Fire team. Of the members, three joined on the same day when the team was started. One was a new username from that first day but the other two weren't. So, in hindsight, I can see a good bit of circumstantial evidence for the claim. How do we know for a fact? I mean, we don't want to go around presuming the a new team is bogus be default. The Le Masque username did crunch a good 300K+ points while on Bravo. WCG does benefit from that. Yes, things really got weird fast in the last few days. Still, you can take just about any username and there's no way you can really be certain that they are really who they claim to be. The way many of the base campers use different usernames is actually a good thing. I guess somone could actually use separate usernames for each of their machines so they can have a different profile and crunch different projects on each machine. Is it any of my business really if someone is doing that sort of thing? Having their own team with these usernames and cross posting back and forth does get a bit weird and is pitiful more than anything. I'm not saying there's nothing wrong with the behaviour we saw but I'd like to see specifics provided. We have plenty of recent members here at WCG and they're not going to have the history others of us do. Not knowing that history, what they see is someone claiming a team is bogus. It's easy to get the impression that we are intolerant and engage in personal attacks here at WCG. Not the sort of impression we want to give. As a captain, I'm also looking at it from the perspective of what if anything I should look out for for my team. Seems I missed most of whats gone on the last couple of days being away from home - but if I can just add my own thoughts Keith. The person behind this is called Kevin Robinson - he has been creating teams made up of himself for a long time now both here at WCG and earlier over at UD Grid, Folding@Home and others. Doing such things is not against any rules here, deceiving perhaps but is in itself pretty harmless I guess, although I do find it somewhat weird behaviour, unless cross-posting and talking to yourself is your cup of tea - but whatever floats your boat. Where the problem comes with this deception, and it has on several occasions here and elsewhere, is when innocent persons join that team unaware that his fellow 'members' are in fact the same person - this has happened several times in the relatively recent past here and those innocent members still hold much grievance about it to this day. Another trait of this person is to infiltrate other established teams (something that as you know MOT has suffered from in the past) and attempt to gain influence over them by various means. This persons antics are closely monitored and evidence gathered at another more private place so an eye can be kept on what he is up to and warn potential victims when necessary - but you will understand that to post about the evidence and methods used here in a public forum would severely inhibit the chances of detection in the future. *********** edited for inappropriate language...cih [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 10, 2008 12:59:40 PM] |

Spent my day off building a stand for my tv and ancillary equipment.....and relocating/tidying everything up. Be a few more days before I actually have time to sit down and enjoy the results. Umming and ahhing over wether to add a blu-ray/HD dvd drive. In other news, I need to find some more rigs just to try to hold my poem top 50 place. Okay, Ady. I understand. Still, I have to admit that laying the facts out and shining the light on it does have its appeal. Hard to do the sort of things he does when everyone knows about it. You can't scam the educated and aware. Can't seem to stop myself pitying the guy. In the same league as folks that fake military service and medals. I was reading the other day about someone faking being a survivor of one of the floors on the WTC above where the plane hit on 9/11. At least he's not in that league. |
