When Grid.org finally closed it’s doors, our team captain enticed us all to join WCG. It’ll be a year in April and so far I have been very impressed with the mechanics (virtually no downtime) and the speed with which the admins and techs tackle the problems. Yes, you may run into a CA that appears to be having a bad day, but we’re dealing with volunteers again. Professionalism has to be honed. I have no idea as to the success of our crunching, but I still remain optimistic that our results are being put to good use. [gunner]As you know, I have been a CA here for quite a while (about 3 years now), although I have had to back off quite a bit since having all my health problems in 2006 and last year. Your statement about CA's is right on the money. We are people with personalities (some more abrasive than others) who are all trying to be of help to the projects and to the community and are far from being the perfect beings we would hope to be. One last post before I call it a night.
----------------------------------------We all get tired and frustrated at times with just about anything that you do day in and day out. It's okay to take a break if that's what you need. That's just one of the reason MyOnlineTeam has expanded its presence beyond the WCG to a number of projects. If you don't want to take a complete break from all crunching for a time, you can easily crunch at one or more of these other projects and still be a part of MOT. You don't have to use the same username but you do want to use the same email address for each project you attach to. Note that you will need to join the MOT team at each project as well. If you are tired and/or frustrated but prefer to keep crunching here, I do not have a problem if you want to discuss it here. I think that is better that letting it build up and get to you. I do prefer that you try to keep it polite and respectful and try to avoid starting a flamewar. You may be mad at the admins (or me) about something but, just like you, we're all folks doing what we can in too few hours each day. We don't have time to be part of any "conspiracies" as neither do you. It is probably inevitable that you will eventually get a response to a post of yours that at the least you don't like and at worst sends your blood pressure thru the roof. If someone is out of line in their response, no matter who they are or their level of involvement here at WCG, avoid lowering yourself to their level. Let's face it, mud wrestling is cheesy and it is far to rare that any of us would look good doing it. There's a red angry face icon at the bottom right of every post. Use it instead. When you respond in kind in a thread, you just add fuel to the fire and we all lose. Oh I know the temptation is all but impossible to resist but we are all too good for that. If someone is trying to tweak our nose, why give them the satisfaction? If there's a problem here, be it with the admins, the project, the team, me or someone else, and you don't feel you're getting a fair response, let me know, be it here or by direct e-mail. I'll try to do what I can. For most of us, WCG was our introduction to the DC world and remains our only project. All we know about projects, how they are and/or should be run and such is based on what we've seen here. It's a lot like working at the same job for all your life. We know that but we don't know that much about what it's like elsewhere, despite the strong lure of the greener grass Sirens. If you want to learn more about what the DC world is really like, take advantage of our presence at these other projects. We're a team that crunches for a better world tomorrow. That doesn't limit us to WCG alone. Personally, WCG is my primary crunching focus - about 90% - but I have gotten my toes wet in a number of places. A little perspective goes a long way. Like me, I hope all of you are here at MOT for the long haul. We're a team in and of itself. We also happen to crunch primarily and predominantly at WCG. I hope to see us continue to grow and to introduce others to the DC world and the good that will come from that in due time. It's quite a world out there and I prefer to make the most of it. Note: to ensure there are no misunderstandings, nothing in the above is meant for any one individual, to cast blame or assign fault. I had no individual event in mind as I wrote any part of the above. No implications are intended. I'm just an old fart who's a virtual black hole of stubborn bull-headedness. This is a great team that is only going to get greater. Believe me, it's going to be quite a ride! |

Keith, Your a tiger in the making! I am trying to curb the tide as well. If those who actualy run this place knew how this place is seen by "guests", they would also see that they need to do something to prevent looking like a bunch of geeks not worth the time.
----------------------------------------This is more like what we are: Marysduby, just the concept of fighting a war against disease, CrUnChInG and cRuNcHiNg, is therapeutic. It focuses the mind to fight the disease sympathetically. Well i certainly and seriously hope it never touches your life--Mary would have liked you---It helps me to crunch cancer, even though I don’t have it. It helps me to know I'm hurting something that has hurt me without even the hint of mercy. In this way, I extract the desire of vengeance and focus it into good. Something my father would have wanted. Something Mary would have wanted, I'm sure, as well. We can win this thing...Let the battle continue!!! Good call Cargod and congrats on 30 cpu years. Sorry it took 1/2 cpu years for me to notice. Been fighting a war against apathy, AGAIN! Ah, but Marysduby, I have an illness that keeps you nice and healthy, while it also make you pray for death. If the average person should get this, the prognosis is 3 years. I'm past 15. It's called Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In the past it was called "Shell Shock", as it is common for a soldier in battle to be exposed to stress incomprehendible. When the stress is lifted though, the mind replays the anxiety in an attempt to resolve the pain of the past over and over again. The psychosis can be so overwhelming that those afflicted can die before even knowing they are ill. What makes my case different is it was not from a wartime event. It was domestic. This means I cant be fully pulled from the environment that created the problems like a war veteran. Because of this, the psychosis can mutate and cycle in such a way, that it becomes impossible to track or cure. Even the psyc community doesn’t even try to do anything to help really, as they tend to just want to "bottle" me. What they find though is there is nothing to bottle. As what has been my key to survival can’t be duplicated. It is with this in mind, that in the same way Mary would have liked me, that I know she would have never wanted to see you in such pain. The part about how they have a seeming agenda for this place thats seems out of step with its reality, I swear, Bush must be running it. This is why, if you question them, you are a problem. GO! Niteowl GO! Show them the way to crunching, grid.org style. ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by courine at Jan 22, 2008 7:41:36 AM] |

Courine, tigers got nothing to do with it. I'm just a stupid old cuss who's learned far too much the hard way. You won't and can't keep the tide from going out or coming in. It's a force we have to accept and live with. None of us do what we do and knowingly, willingly do it stupidly. Any and every decision every person makes made perfect sense to them at the instant they made it. That doesn't mean that they then don't realize something that has even them realizing that it was a REALLY dumb decision. To the extent we can understand where that person was in the instant of making that decision, we can understand the how and the why of that decision. The admins here are no different. I fully believe they all care about how WCG is run and want to do the best they can. They have limits and constraints on what they can do and when they can get things done. Guess what, so do the rest of us. They are not our enemy or advesary. They are part of the same team we are - TEAM WCG. I can only imagine how long they wanted to add the XML capabilities they just did to the web pages. Considering how most folks tend to react when they are told they are stupid incompetent idiots (ok, not in those words but that's the clear message), considering some of the things that have been said about the admins and the job they do here, they've been more than entitled to tell some folks where to go and what to do when they get there. No, they aren't perfect, Big whoop! Like that's a surprise. Golly gee! Neither am I. I do think a bit more attention to communication and a dash more openness would help. The fact that I think that doesn't mean that they're hiding from us or are being arogant. I really wish that they'd take a few minutes and pull back the curtain long enough for us to get a good look at what all they really do do and have on their list to do. Perspective can make for a wonderful 2x12 up side the head. We all can use that at some time or another. Believe me I know from experience!

Na, you're a tiger. Just had to put on the wool. It's OK, just when people leave WCG because of poor management, project stats and/or apathy; I cant just let it pull the wool over my eyes.
