I'll bet you a Samuel Adams to a Molsons Ale that Owlie leaves those machines running. ![]() ![]() For the Cause! ![]() ![]() Well, that would certainly keep us in contention, but with the number of machines he has operating, I'm not sure he would want to risk a burn-up while being away basking in some southern California sunshine. ![]() Actually, I'll put up a Sam Adams that he'll come back with a burn-up. You know those poor east coasters are looking a little pasty this time of year. ![]() |

Actually, given that Nite Owl's pretty much right on the Chesapeake, he may well have a better tan than you guys! Crab country!

Well if it's not 14 days I'll find out now.
Wow.. DDDT takes 22 minutes average a work unit. I'll have an influx in work units. ![]() |

I see, but then help me understand this. I have two machines, both of which run 24/7 a 3.6 ghz intel desktop and a 2.4 ghz amd laptop. The laptop outperforms the desktop by at least a solid 1000 points a day (sometimes more). Both machines are set to give BOINC 100% of their resources. Why the disparity?
Jonathan - I think you may be getting confused with the benchmarking of the old UD client rather than Boinc who's benchmarking has nothing to do with a 'standard machine'. With Boinc, although everyone in the quorum gets the same credit - overclocking means you crunch the units faster, hence you crunch more units in the same time as a stock machine and therefore get more points overall ![]() |

Jonathan, I hope you don't mind an outsider's theory on this.
There's a couple of reasons why the lower mhz machine does more work. Your AMD is probably producing higher Gflops, thus producing more work. I'm surmising the Intel is probably a D960 processor. The D series, although being a dual core processor, does not produce high Gflops. Certainly less than the latest C2D processors. If you are using BOINCView, you can check the rating of each machine in Gflops. Do you use your desktop machine as your main machine? Any other programs you run take away from your crunching output, but I would bet it's mainly the difference between the AMD vs Intel output. For example: I have a D925 3ghz dual core which only produces 1.6 Gflops. Compare that to my E6750 C2D (overclocked to 3Ghz) which produces 2.9 Gflops. That's a major difference. |

Which is why I asked for the full specifications. GHz power is important, but it also depends on the type of CPU. Pentium Duo Core, Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad, Pentium 4, Celeron, etc. I'm not to familiar with AMD. I'm an Intel/NVidia person. ![]() |

Now, while I'm here...it appears Blizzie has hijacked my stats banner.
![]() Somehow, he(she) has managed to make our numbers identical. ![]() |

My stats are correct: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewMemberInfo.do?userName=blizzie Looks like you need to check your code.
