Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers!
nap thought reintroducing Base Camp trek badges would be a good idea, so that’s what we will do. It used to be TLD who conscientiously dealt them after each Base Camp trek. Now our organisation has slackened somwhat after the demolishing of our Caste – our private forum. Perhaps we can find a way to let TLD take care of this important job again. Are you interested, TLD?

Thanks for asking but no i'm not interested.

Good Morning Base Campers!
TLD says no sad the EVGA-boys have said nothing at all thinking Hungary is totally silent! d oh
Will the Hungary trek work? You never know. One, two, many?

It’s been three days.
Half of my life is on that device.
I’m in deep denial.
She’s the one that has my downloaded radio programmes for me to listen to while doing the dishes, walking – anything apart from what needs attention.
She’s the one that guides me to the place to park for a walk I haven’t done for a long, long time
She’s the one that gives me the news from DR (Denmark’s Radio) and BBC
She’s the one who logs my steps when I walk and transforms the result into calories burnt
She’s the one who freezes that Kodak moment
She’s the one who can show my ’Senior Citizens Association’ membership card from that app with all the fringe benefits of membership listed
She’s the one who lets me check e-mails on the go
She’s the one that lets me google anything I need to know out in the fresh air
She’s the one who lets me enter a word in the 4 letter game away from home
She's the one who gives me the weather forecast
She’s the one who remembers which ordered books and DVDs now are available at which shelves in the library
She’s the one that alerts me to emergencies in my region with a horrible sound
She’s my alarm clock
She’s my calculator
She’s the one that makes it possible to call 112 (911) indicating the coordinates
She’s the one that lets me believe I need to look up a subway/metro station in Washington, D. C., New York or Budapest
- I have to remember installing the Copenhagen ones when you are dismissed from the Sony Hospital
She could have been my purse, had I installed MobilePay
She could have been much, much more had I not been frugal with her apps

I miss you Saphir12-Nathalie crying

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

That is true ? There is no particular law? No need for a particular vaccine? There is no obligation to wear a muzzle either? I always feel like torturing him when I put this to him ...

And if not, she looks good on your tablet! But I have much simpler, I ask Saphir12, and she tells me!

biggrin

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers!
Now we have a Base Camp Hall of Fame.
We have listed the treks we made – more or less organized - since October 2017. I made a few one-woman-ones where deltavee chipped in (if you can call what he does something like ’chipping’ – just ask Capt. Joe of Minnesota Cruncher who discovered an earthquake in his graphs). Those are not listed. We shall do our best to keep the list shipshape.

You probably don’t want to hear more about my health issues, but I find this interesting on a broader measure. Doctors know a lot, most of them are specialized, which may mean that they have a tendency to wear blinkers. They are unable to see the complete picture. Noone assembles the puzzle. You have to do a lot of work yourself, and you have to present your results in the most gentle and considerate fashion to your health professionals of whom some have giant egos.

My legs are swollen. No suggestions from the doctors I have seen since I got sufficiently worried to discuss it with them has really fit the bill. None of them – and how should they – have the entire picture. I’m the one who has it. Patients are to a wide degree and for a number of reasons – valid and foolish – discouraged from using the internet for informing themselves. That I did yesterday, and I have continued today.

I have a monozyglot (inherited from one parent) Protein C Leiden Factor V (as in Roman V – five) which makes my blood three times more probable to coagulate into a blood clot than ’normal’ blood. Had it been heterozyglot (inherited from both parents) the risk would have been 13 times. I suspect the first sign came far back in 1989? on a car trip in Oregon. My ankle swelled. I went away overnight and I brushed it off. In 2001 we went on a roundtrip to Vietnam. Already at the layover in Bangkok something was wrong, and my legs – especially the right one – was swollen, red and hot. I spashed my legs in the swimming pools and draped myself with cold bottles from the minibar. Nothing helped until my return to the cold weather in Denmark and running around. Then in 2005 we went to Argentina and Chile and on the return flight my legs swelled up and did not let up. At the emergency ward they found a blood clot and gave me heparine for self injection. I was contacted by a blood specialist who ordered a Leiden Factor V test, and it was positive. The treatment is blood thinning tablets (rat poison in effect) taken according to the results of blood tests carried out weekly. I went through a very comprehensive class to learn to manage it myself – testing, adjusting doses, watching my diet (broccoli, spinach, and white and red cabbage are rich in vitamin K which should be limited – vitamin K is generated in the digestive tract for the most part - alcohol works as a blood thinner in it’s own right, informing my dentist and other 'invaders' and watching interactions with other medicines - even herbal ones which I never trusted anyway. So things must be balanced, but it’s no big deal once you get into the routine.

I have had swollen legs on and off many times since that blood clot and always suspected something was damaged as a consequence, but when I presented my elephant legs to doctors - even blood doctors - and gave them my lecture, they brushed me off.

For a couple of days I have done my own internet research, and it turns out that a condition called ’posttrombotic syndrome’ exists. It is something that hits 40-60% of DVT (deep vein thrombosis – blood clot in the leg) sooner or later.
So how can anybody NOT get that idea?
A cancer disease which I have, and/or estrogen supplements which I accepted to try after sincere reassurances put you at greater risk.
All of a sudden I have a medical explanation to support my own observations.
Am I glad? Not really. Am I sad? Yes, it feels that way.
I hope you can learn something from this.

From a Norwegian website:

EDIT: Several things plus a link to the Base Camp Hall of Fame biggrin
EDIT II: nobody -> anybody and then some
EDIT III: New Base Camp Hall of Fame link because deleting and reposting has consequenses

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Afternoon Base Campers!
The Hungary trek will start Monday January 15.
I wonder how that will go.
Hungary is silent.
I had hoped we had been able to get a conversation going. Perhaps they don’t want visitors at all?
No team is an island. shame on you
We have a badge for Base Camp's Hungary trek ready.

Normally, we would not design the badge before a trek has taken place, but we feel the need to promote this trek as intensively as we can. Also, all treks from now on could be seen as a dress rehearsal for the Grand Galla SNURK Base Camp trek scheduled for September.
I guess I have a bit of stage fright.
If only one cruncher would check in here and tell me he’s coming …. worried

My swollen legs story took a turn for the better. In Denmark more and more health business is carried out via the internet. We have e-consultations. We can write e-mails via a certain system to our General Practitioners. And they answer via that same system within a few days. Tuesday, I let my wonderful new GP know what my diagnosis probably were – Post Thrombotic Syndrome, PTS for short – supported it by quotes and links and asked if she could please refer me for lymph drainage physiotherapy. This morning she wrote:
”Thank you for your excellent research. I agree.
I’m not that familiar with lymph drainage, but I have put a referral for physiotherapy in the cloud.”

Such a gracious way to take it and such an efficient way to act.
You will understand why I’m so happy with her.
My reading club friend – the Buddhist whose model daughter declined a date with Mr Trumpf – told me at lunch Monday that she knew of a physiotherapist who knows how to perform lymph drainage.
And now I have an appointment with him next week.

And, of course, adriverhoef, I remember I heard about the
Danish lymph drainage invention first from you and your friend from the
Netherlands.
Thank you rose – and please thank your friend from me rose
By the way Adri, do you think she would be interested in earning that Hungary badge?
And a mention in the Base Camp Hall of Fame?
