First I got the impression that we were running in circles, adriverhoef, but I had forgotten my psychic talent …. and my crystal ball ….
Fair enough. However, I had hoped for some factual pointers from you and Speurneus. Crystal ball gazing is to the dreamy side, after all … Never mind, we’ll just launch something and hope for the best, Adri - and start talking Hungarian! ![]() The Elgiganten service man put my SIM card into an adapter and put it into my old Nokia. When I turned it on and gave it my PIN code it said I couldn’t access. Now I will probably be unable to receive the SMS telling me when Saphir12-Nathalie is back in town … No more cheery SMSs from Upstairs Yvonne down in Andalusia ... Tegenslag after tegenslag ![]() |

This has not been the happiest day in my life. Not the saddest either.
I had to go to Elgiganten again. The bright young man was able to remember cell phones were sold with a locked SIM card many years ago so that you had to tie your subscription for certain length of time. My Nokia has never been unlocked, so it would not accept a strange SIM card. We moved the SIM card over to Mr Jones, and since that was all, he put up with it and is still crunching faithfully. He even accepted that a picture of the monkeys of Gibraltar ticked in from Upstairs Yvonne. Speurneus, I took my crystal ball, my shawl, and the cat and went to Team Hungary to carry out my own research. They are BIG – 876 current members and they are very faithful. They produce upwards of 6,000 hours of runtime per day, generate more than a million points on a daily basis, and return 2,000+ points every day. I compared to MOT where I presently live. MOT has 280 current members, and they actually produce more. I also looked at how top40.nl did at the peak of our Base Camp trek there, and for the sprint where PecosRiverM worked like crazy, the score was a good deal above Hungary’s, so I’m confident that we can make una bella figura, provided we can interest existing and new Base Campers in Hungary. |

Good Afternoon Base Campers!
----------------------------------------In a week Base Camp shall visit team Hungary for our first trek of 2018. I have no idea if it could turn into a trek as good as the one we had at former captain adriverhoef’s top40.nl I have no idea if anyone but me will turn up. Time will tell. Tomorrow I’ll leave My Online Team and head out on a combined hygge and beggar mission to Crunching@EVGA to try to make some of them interested in participating a bit. Realizing that the EVGA-boys and many other crunchers for that matter are too busy doing challenges and stuff to stay for a week or more, I hope to be able to persuade not only the EVGA-boys by any Base Camper - seasoned or novice - to crunch with Hungary for at least one day. For a coordinated effort I imagine that day could be Saturday January 20th. This way it should be possible to make some kind of Base Camp impression. A spike, I hope. Of course, any lenght of time shall be welcome. I'm still trying to figure out how to make a contact in their team thread which has not been in use since 2012 ... Google Translate and I shall find a way ![]() It used to be so easy to link to pictures. Now, however most pictures are ’locked’ by a new entity ![]() It seems to be yet another social media. Wikipedia explains it this way: Pinterest is a web and mobile application company that operates a software system designed to discover information on the World Wide Web, mainly using images and on a shorter scale, GIFs and videos. If you join, you’ll need to choose five fields of interest, and then it seems you’ll receive a weekly e-mail with a link to the new pictures of the week within your sphere of interest. Now, I joined. I like pictures and to be able to link to them, and in all honesty: there are an infinite quantity of attractive ones. Today my ’architecture’ shipment contained this one – I’m impressed! I visited the Grundtvig's Church and its surroundings in the outskirts of Copenhagen last year around this time. It’s a very big yellow brick structure. The craftmanship and design is no less than awesome in my humble opinion. ![]() Here is a picture gallery that will touch the hands and heart of any craftsman and construction worker ![]() It seems to have something wrong with it in some parts. I hope it will be fixed come Monday. Don't you find that many websites suffer when their handlers are off on weekends? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 23, 2018 12:36:29 PM] |

----------------------------------------Of course he's smart my Louloup! Even he told me, that as long as I have not seen a picture where he licks your hand, it does not count! ![]() Oh my dog ? ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 7, 2018 5:00:18 AM] |

You have to send Louloup to Denmark, stefada, so we can arrange for a such a picture.
I would love to go to your region and have Louloup lick my hand there. I have never been to Paris either, and in April Norwitchian Air will open a route to Corse .... I'm just too tired for the time being, even too tired to make dreams into plans not to speak of making plans into reality ![]() |

Good Morning Base Campers!
It cannot be so, but that’s what I heard. You know you point your ears when an unusual sound sounding. It’s been more than six months and it’s the sound of spring already. Streptopelia. We call them ’tyrkerduer’ ~ ’Turk pidgins’. When I KliK play, I hear it stereo – the recording in my left ear, the live bird in my right. ![]() What a way to start a day. The sun even shines. What a contrast to the picture show I just watched from New York and up and down the eastern seaboard. I hope everyone is OK ![]() Hungary trek My attempt at making contact with team Hungary did not pay off. Yet. I hadn’t expected it to. When I visited Budapest in May/June, the Hungarians in general did not smile back for some three days ![]() After that it worked pretty well ![]() I hope you will allocate some crunching time to team Hungary between January 15th and 25th – and above all on the designated peak day: January 20th. nap, maybe we should begin making badges again. What do you think? You’ll be rewarded with great sights and free tickets for our September Great Galla SNURK trek ![]() |

Good Evening Base Campers!
I went to see ’Backstabbing for Beginners’. I must admit I’m not good at grasping plots of doublecrossing, spy stories, nor science fiction, so most of it went past me. However, I did read part of the book on which the film is based, and I look forward to continue. Michael Soussan, the author and whistleblower, writes quite entertainingly. ![]() He was present himself after the show and said that he wrote the book humorously as a therapy to get over the upsets of his dealings with the UN and the Oil-for-Food scandal. His mother is Danish, his father was a French diplomat who lost his life at the Beirut US Embassy bombing when Michael was just five years old. His opinion is that we are in a ’War of Values’ and that we have to stop lying to each other and especially to ourselves and stand up for our values and speak out. It is his impression from his international life that a small country like Denmark can make a difference because we are not regarded as any threat to anything, and as to corruption we score pretty high on the Transparency International – well, we rank as #1 out of 176 nations in the latest survey. To me it was reassuring to hear that he also regards our trust in one another a great asset which we have brought with us from the Viking age as well as the equality between the sexes. There is nothing like being in an echo room! Furthermore it is his firm belief that ’the terrorists’ fear ’us good guys’ far more than we fear them, because their values don’t hold up the way ours do. The ticket was priced at DKK 95 in the newsletter that announced this event. When I bought it, they only wanted DKK 80. When I arrived, they presented me with a free ticket for any other show - all of a sudden it was completely free! ![]() |

Good Morning Base Campers!
nap thought reintroducing Base Camp trek badges would be a good idea, so that’s what we will do. It used to be TLD who conscientiously dealt them after each Base Camp trek. Now our organisation has slackened somwhat after the demolishing of our Caste – our private forum. Perhaps we can find a way to let TLD take care of this important job again. Are you interested, TLD? The pay is - well, you know .... ![]() We’ll start retroactively by dealing a top40.nl badge to everyone who participated in this trek. The basis for the badge is this: ![]() We have rules for the size of badges. They must be 60 pixels high, and they must contain the trek name. We used to have a trek number as a criterium as well, but we have cut down on bureaucracy. Sizewise it’s a problem, but we’ll manage. We always did. The top40.nl badge looks like this: ![]() Crunchers ipkh little mermaid OlddanIT PecosRiverM polarbeardj Puncho@BC tanner2 ultimaThule yodap we thank you for your contribution in Base Camp Trek top40.nl and invite you to grab your badge by doing the ’quote’ half nelson with a twist. We have a badge for our upcoming Hungary trek as well, and nap is already thinking about how a Grand Galla Snurk trek badge could look. Maybe we should think about making a Kraland trek badge also. What do you say, nap? A Base Camp badge is dealt to everyone who delivers 1 WU – that’s just one WU – to the team Base Camp treks with. |
