Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

It's exactly that ! Today, this tower only serves as a colimasson staircase to give access to the apartments that surround it.
Now, that’s funny tongue
And if we do not know History, we can go ahead without realizing it.
Very true. It doesn’t shout to us. You have to search for it.
While ten meters away, there is the "place des barrernes", which is now a parking lot
What has not been turned into parking lots – geezzz
but at the time of the ramparts, it is there that was stored all the weapons.
An armory?
I like History for that, when we know, this tower, we do not look at it any more in the same way.
No. I would think about it each time I walked up and down those stairs.
Let's look at the other tower (and while there, with a view of the fountain and the statue of the Liberty Square).
Yes, please. Place de la Liberté? I have it here right on the Google Map. The old town with all its crooked streets.
We see a little more military side, but it remains integrated with other buildings. And here too, it's more than a staircase. The plates on the door below, it is to announce doctors' offices. (life makes jokes)
Yes, they don’t look so nice, but what can these doctors do? They have to announce to their patients where their offices are …
As for the area, I do not think it's related to water (although here, there are places where I can drink at the river, not everywhere, but it's worth noting). I think it's more related to relief. Most places are difficult to access, and you can see someone coming from afar. And as if that was not enough, to hide there are plenty of "avens" (a kind of cave).
I think it was a ”Danecism” the thing about being the water … it can do you good or bad. We use it as a metaphor.
It’s very good that you can drink from your rivers. Even as the waterbodies here are clean enough for Saphir12’s herons to multiply, I wouldn’t drink it. Maybe from a spring.

And how often do we look at something, I do not know. When it's beautiful, it's beautiful, and that's it? The old bridge in St Affrique, I saw it for the first time in 1989. For almost four years that I have my dog, I start my day passing by. And yet, every day, I take the time to look at it. He is majestic, yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Yes, I know the feeling. Today I took a walk in a forest – the weather improved so it was possible – and it also never looks the same. This picture I took on my way home.
I finished with the avatar of my character on KI (my character, not me):

It’s very handsome. Have you created it all by yourself or did Saphir12 help?
He is a warrior in perfecto, rangers. And next to it, he still has ways, hence the top hat. The death's head on his neck is that in his background he is undead. And in the background, there is the teddy bear and the dragon, its nice side and angry (in French, it looks like "soup with milk").
"Soup with milk"? Opaque?
Oh, sort of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde? That's a lot of symbolism to put into a small place tongue
I don’t know anything about role gaming except for some people nearby who hang their costumes to dry on the clothes line, so they must do it. You have to tell me some, when you feel like it. I sense that you have built your character with the qualities you want him to have. It must be like starring in a movie.
You and Saphir12 are the first Frenchmen I have met since my teenage years. I had a pen friend in France, forgot where, but I remember his name. Yvon. He sent me a lot of French stamps. Perfect stamps with the postmarks in the lower left corner. They are beautiful. They are the cornerstone in my collection, and I bought a lot more of French stamps to supplement the ones Yvon sent me. Today I took out my collection for the first time in I don’t know how many years, mainly in order to check if there should be a Saint-Affrique motif. There wasn’t. I found my favorite one: Château Chambord. I love that building and the violet colour.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers!
A crisp, cool still-above-freezing at 35.6F morning with a low angle wintersun - November at it’s best in my end. I try to imagine how your mornings are. From Washington State to Deep in the Heart of Texas – the video was made by Texas Chamber of Commerce and works niftily around the more difficult climatic challenges and what else you have. I notice they use a Shetland Sheep Dog, I believe he is, for herding the cattle. Those dogs are so eager to work … until now I only saw them herd, well, yes, sheep.

deltavee, when we corresponded, you told me many things about those Texas challenges. I remember you had a flooding that wiped away your fencing and you had to reestablish it as the water was ripe with snakes. You had a draught that brought hardship to most cattle men in your area, but with the foresight you seem to apply to most things, you had prepared even for that. Believe me, I think about it ever so often.

I went to SNURK and friends’ team page this morning, and I see plenty of people I know more or less crunching away there. I pinched myself where my mom would have done it – the inner side of my upper arm, ouch! – and looked once more.
deltavee, it looks as if you made a head start – this has become an odd communication
– me by rambling cow
- you by surprise-doing love struck
And you’re not the only one: shock
USAFA 82@BC is flying low there as well. I asked if you, Mike – being a captain – still split computers under your command.
And you tipped your wings. biggrin love struck
Arrww, do you think I like it, guys? batting eyelashes
Honestly, I cannot wait to join you, but I have committed myself to help Crunching@EVGA
during out in the 13th Birthday Challenge
What would the poor guys do without my remaining two cores? wink sad crying

In other news
La capitaine of Team Kraland, Saphir12, went over to - thank you Nat smile - and said Happy Birthday to Billy Ewell, who at 86 crunches with 22 cores and four GPUs BOINC wide hypnotized not that size matters, she has to say blushing but definitely Base Camp material in spirit if only I knew how to round him up. He's in Texas, too, by the way.
I joined the Kraland Forum. Saphir12 took me by the hand and guided me expertly with roadmaps, drawings, red arrows and what have you through the daunting process of registering.
In French skull

I hope you did the waltz yesterday. That will make you ready for this Danish contribution (just the music, unfortunately) to the world of tango which is somewhat more challenging than your ordinary walzing parquet floors
- some alternative use of your bathroom, eh?
And if any of you have a clue to what and where the monumental white structure in the background is, I would be pleased to learn it.

In 1993 Jacob Gade's original manuscript to Tango Jalousie was aquired by The Royal Library in Copenhagen, Denmark, where I saw it last year displayed along with many other of the treasures they have, among them Northern Europe’s only copy of’The Birds of America 1827-1838’ by John James Audebon, a big, large, great book in all the meanings of the words.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Hello Base Campers!
Since the cat is out of the bag

so to speak and two Base Campers have made a headstart
I suggest everyone should have the chance to get himself a headstart.
You may check in at the muddy camp ground in the Netherlands at your earliest convenience.
The address is: SNURK & Friends
They have a team thread. It has not been used for 17 months d oh
They have probably forgotten it is there, but I fished it up from some canal before it froze over and cleaned it.
So, if you need some hygge do come into the cozy livingroom. You’ll find coffee and tea ad libitum
- maybe we can find some Hollandse Graanjenever too.
I tell you, it's an aquired taste which I admittedly never aquired blushing
sad
We really don't have a plan for this SNURK trek. It's open ended. You just stay as long as you like.
Oh, yes, you may hum this one as our temporary National Base Camp hymn Ik wist niet dat je kwaad werd
- obtained from my Dutch connection, adriverhoef. Dank tongue
Well, you can let it play. The next one - according to my more than rudimentary Dutch - is a very appropriate one about someone who cannot find his camper 'Waar is toch mijn caravan'.
So go easy on the Hollandse Graanjenever, Base Campers shame on you
Have a safe trip peace

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

It just dawned on me that
SNURK & Friends
participates in the 13th Birthday Challenge
- sharper brains may have figured that out already and therefore made this headstart.
If you decide to jump over to SNURK now, you have
2 days 0 hours 32 minutes 40 seconds
at the time of writing worth of challenge remaining
- a bonus I ought to have predicted d oh

Right now
Team Kraland is #36 out of 95 participants
Crunching@EVGA is #23 - up one step since last I saw
SNURK and friends is #17 - I cannot tell how much they have moved,
but I can see from their graphs that they had a load of points a couple of days ago
and now have stabilized at a higher level.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers!
I thought I had seen most. But I widened my small morning-narrow eyes when I had one of these
’Today-Google-dresses-up-to-celebrate-President-McKinley’s-second-cat’s-258th-birthday’
logos reminding me – I think just us living in Denmark; they have a Rolodex with adresses – to go cast my vote at the local and regional (they forgot the senior citizens’ council) elections today. When you KliK the logo you get a video. I had hoped it showed how to place my ’x’ the right way with the tied-down-cut-in-half-#2-pencil (we save where we can).
confused I never understood why we cannot have a tick box. Tick boxes cannot be all that expensive.

Google as a ’good corporate citizen’.
Whauw! Thank you! love struck
And that after Danish Margrethe Vestager, the European Competition Commissioner, slammed Google with a fine of no less than €2.420.000.000 ~ US$2.84 billion beat up
An amount to be felt even by Google.
But no hard feelings. Whauw! biggrin
Of course, I shall go vote, Google angel it’s a privilege to be able to.
Margrethe took on Apple, too, by the way.
These companies must have a love/hate relationship with Denmark, because they both bought land for establishing data centers to profit from ’green wind turbine electricity’.
Facebook did too.
Here we are constructing the power transformer plant for Apple:

Otherwise things look quiet.
SNURK did not get more friends overnight. SNURK’s address is here
In 13th Birthday Challenge
Team Kraland still sits firmly at #36
Crunching@EVGA went up two ticks to #21 - probably because tanner2 moved in from SeriousCrunchers
SNURK and friends did not move from #17
Let’s see if we can move it
coffee coffee coffee coffee

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Just returned from the local and regional elections (not to forget the Senior Citizen’s Council), and I’m fuming frustrated
My fury was triggered right there at the door. They had screwed up by screwing up a sign saying ”Folkeafstemning” – meaning "Plebiscite". This is not a plebiscite. It is a general election to our councils. Plebiscites these days generally are about ceding sovereignty to the EU but could also be changing the constitution or making younger people eligible to vote by lowering the age limit.
That idiotic sign had sit there since 8 am this morning – for nine hours before a nitpicking idjit like me began objecting. Loudly!
My bad mood was further fueled by a 10 minutes or more queue for registering.
My goodness!
Who cares about correctness any more?
And who takes this cornerstone of democracy seriously any more?
*********
Well, well, in half an hour Upstairs Yvonne and I shall go to a sing-along evening concentrated on songs from Højskolesangbogen – a collection of songs used in our Højskoler – not to be confused with High Schools. That should calm me down.
*********
If furthermore I am to see a lot of people having joined SNURK and friends upon my return, my mood shall be a whole lot gentler devilish for what it's worth.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers!
When I advertised yesterday on the Crunching@EVGA Forum:
If you have nothing better to do, Base Camp is conduction - [sic] yes, it should have been conducting blushing - an informal trek to
Team SNURK & Friends
- you may know SNURK, the creator of the SNURK sign which many of us carry.

they answered
Hmm, are you trying to trick us? tongue SNURK and friends are only 2 spots above us in the WCG Birthday Challenge and we have a small chance of catching them in the remaining 28 hours of the challenge.

Well, conspiration, corruption, and now some seemingly conflict of interest …..
What have I come to? worried

SNURK & Friends have some serious crunchers (not to be confused with SeriousCrunchers), but still deltavee and USAFA 82 are able to make some spike and this gentle uphill as a ski jump hill take-off slope as this graph indicates:

I’m afraid it will be gone tomorrow – the graph I mean. How do you make it permanent?
nerd All we have to do is make sure that uphill ski jump hill continues up so that the ski jumper never jumps.

On this last day of 13th Birthday Challenge
with a little less than 16 hours remaining at the time of writing we have
Team Kraland fixed at #36
Crunching@EVGA sprinting along furiously now at #19 below UK
while SNURK & Friends hold their own at #17 ahead of UK

And, yes, the sing-along yesterday was the perfect tranquilizer.

One of those we sang was ”The Danish Song Is Like a Young Blond Maiden” written in 1925 by Carl Nielsen, probably the most famous Danish composer.
Here it is performed by Danmarks Radio’s (DR) women’s choir in the new very, very handsome and very, very expensive DR Concert Hall.
Oddly, in some cases money plays no role, but cutting #2 pencils in half at elections .... rolling eyes

nerd Well, end of class today smile
All of you with SNURK signs should feel it their duty to give SNURK & Friends as generous a tip as you can afford money eyes

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Important update:
SNURK & Friends are still
- and I mean 'still' as in 'a little longer'
ahead of the boys from Crunching@EVGA who have advanced to #18
They have thrown all in locks, stocks, barrels, their Mustangs, not to mention their firstborns and mother-in-laws
You're rocking biggrin cool
