Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning, Base Campers!
Oioi, you’re looking good! cool
Today, we’ll try some intercultural exchange.
This song in Danish with a thick, heavy American accent was so popular that we all knew it by heart.
It was sung by an actor who for all of his life-long career was loved by all of us.
This song expressed all our Dreams of America with The American Dream incorporated in it and deals with Uncle Christian who returns from Minnesota for a visit after 20 years 'over there' - and yes, I translated it myself, so I cannot blame Google Translate.

Uncle from Minnesota
Hello dear old Denmark
Uncle Christian's coming back
I have been away for more than twenty long years in a row
You are just a small country
But if you would like to get bigger
I can buy Sweden for you
That will surely be doable
yibbiie - yibbiie - yeah - and tingelingelater - honky-tonky - æh-bæh-buh
I'm sending all my best from good old Minnesota to all of you
-o-
I was just 18 years old when I left home
In order to earn lots of dollars over there in USA
I started out as a newspaper boy
And soon I became a millionaire
That you don't do bringing out the morning papers here
yibbiie - yibbiie - yeah - and tingelingelater - honky-tonky - æh-bæh-buh
I'm sending all my best from good old Minnesota to all of you
-o-
I'm bringing greetings from both Cary Grant and Danny Kaye
And a record with 'Der er et yndigt land'* with Doris Day
Barbara Hutton asked me to say
That after she has become heavy
She will enjoy her retirement as a share cropper’s wife over here
yibbiie - yibbiie - yeah - and tingelingelater - honky-tonky - æh-bæh-buh
I'm sending all my best from good old Minnesota to all of you
-o-
When some day I go back to the United States again
I shall give your best to Eisenhower
My special good friend
I'll tell him he can keep Carl Brisson**
And that little Denmark by the way still is going strong
yibbiie - yibbiie - yeah - and tingelingelater - honky-tonky - æh-bæh-buh
I'm sending all my best from good old Minnesota to all of you
-o-
yibbiie - yibbiie - yeah - and tingelingelater - honky-tonky - æh-bæh-buh
I'm sending all my best from good old Minnesota to all of you

* 'Der er et yndigt land' is the Danish national anthem - here sounding as a national anthem should do
and this is how it sounds on the national football field before playoff at a national match between Denmark and our ’arch enemy’ footballwise Sweden. Please note that the music stops, and the song is carried on by the spectators.
** Carl Brisson was a Danish-American actor and singer of the Dean Martin class
- a sample: Thanks
- and I thank all of you for coming and wish you all a Happy Crunching Day
love struck

Hello Mike!
Doesn't the sawdust tickle the old circus horse?

Good Morning Base Campers
We are running on the last day but one with SeriousCrunchers in the Kraland Challenge I.
We had the added power of NAP2614 and Howdy2you2, which is very good, because they can easily make up for me having to retire Saphir12-Natalie, my current Sony Xperia which crunches like a dream on eight cores, but is rendered useless as a voice communication instrument.
I can text.
I cannot be heard on the phone.
I’m afraid to lose her completely.
She’s an important part of my life in many, many ways.
So, I decided to let her finish the WUs in stock for the time being setting her to ’No new tasks’. Sorry to say I’m down to my two rather slow cores on my laptop + the one Mr Jones, my first Sony Xperia, runs tirelessly 24/7.

Our #3 position looks firm enough for me to expect we shall finish there, unless one of the teams behind us has some kind of fireworks for the finale. And to me it’s far, far above any expectation.
Thank you for your hard work, one and each Base Camper. smile

Should you out there shhh wish to ride along for the remainder of the challenge, you may report here and collect your horse, lasso, and Stetson.

Temporary National Anthem in a foreign language to get you going today …

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers!
Entering our last day of our Kraland Challenge I by SeriousCrunchers by proxy, everything looks like SeriousCrunchers are about to finish #3.
Isn’t that something!
Who would’ave thought just two months ago?

nap, we could go back, and we met three new friends in the process:
bill1024 – OlddanIT – Howdy2you2
one of whom talks tongue
I guess the Crunching@EVGA people wanted that 4/5 dead horse to live.
BTW it's never too late to drop a couple of WUs with SeriousCrunchers and get your name carved into their totem pole.

It is important to have a large pool of Base Campers to draw from when need be, because many are busy with commitments and appointments they have engaged themselves into a long time ago and normally would not be able to join a trek at a short notice.

We’ll part when the day is over. I wish you all a safe trip, and thank you so much for coming. I should be pleased to see as many of you as possible on Base Camp’s next adventure, which is something to be decided on. You could turn it into a fairy tale.

For my part, I’ll travel to Crunching@EVGA – wherever that is – and help out with all of my three cores (be very afraid) in their
13th Birthday Challenge.
- what a website! Last time I looked the countdown said the challenge would start in
1 day 15 hours 34 minutes 26 seconds rose
I do it not because they helped us now. It was my plan all along. There just happened to be a challenge coming up also cool I'm sure they would welcome any of you also.

Please visit here and help keeping the Base Camp thread afloat.
Seasoned, novice, prospective Base Campers – all are welcome here any time.
Your thoughts, opinions, and ideas would be inspirational, everything that makes Base Camp live .... we are doing everything in the open for the time being, but a Forum is in our plans if we decide we need one and can get someone to do the housekeeping d oh

See you here, there and everywhere smile

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Thanks for coming by and shaking our tree LM, we needed it.
I sincerely hope you were not hurt by anything that fell out.........
We're a family over there and sometimes families have loud discussions and sometimes it draws them closer to each other and sometimes not so much. Time will tell.

I'll be looking in here often.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

A day in a mermaid’s life
I hope it will work out. I’m going through a vertical nightmare with my Sony Xperia, baptized Saphir12-Nathalie.
I was afraid that the fact that the microphone seemed not to work was because of crunching.

For a long time I have had complaints when having phone conversations with one particular person about all kinds of scratching sounds, loud cracks and so on. I made a survey with all other people I had on the phone. 'How do I sound?' OK, they said. No one had a problem with the quality of the sound.

Well, then some time after having installed BOINC and merrily crunching along, the TOTAL SILENCE skull began. I unknowing I was making spooky phone calls, and answered incoming ones likewise. For a short while, I was able to recover this important part of all telephone calls: both being able to hear what the other one says. But at last there was no life in that microphone at all.

Do you know this?
Two things happening at the same time and you having no possibility to determine cause and effect all that easily? If I had not installed BOINC, I would just concentrate on the missing sound. But there seems so often to be one more factor to muddle the waters, and it might have been caused by the rise in temperature … who knows? I didn’t. Analyzing these things is not a piece of cake. To me anyhow, even as I could mention a few in my immediate proximity who would have a somewhat harder time at it.

My ISP – and phone provider – didn’t see anything could be wrong from their side of the desk. They said I could try to switch my SIM card for another one. Well, I have just one. I have had the itty bitty thing in and out several times petrified to molest it, but my friends are old herons like myself. They don’t even know where that SIM card hides. The customer service man said that going on to Sony would probably mean that they would recommend me to reset the phone to factory settings. I didn’l like that. I could envision losing all on that phone … I activated the WCG setting ”No new tasks”.

This morning my phone had finished the WUs in stock, and I restarted the ice cold girl with high hopes. Sigh! Mike was stone dead. Found out how to make a back-up to my SDcard, did that and went the Via Dolorosa to factory settings. After that I could recover most, but sure enough my favorite app ’Here WeGo’ went missing along with my downloaded maps for offline use + all my waypoints crying for everything everywhere crying on two continents crying But I could by and large make it recognizible again.

There was still no sound. Went on to Hugo, my Sony support guy. Hugo said I could try the Diagnostics test built into the phone. I did. It failed the microphone part. Called Hugo again – he doesn’t speak Danish and discussing these things in English when you are upset isn’t pleasant. Hugo said I should download 'Sony Xperia Companion' and make a software repair. Made the download and connected the phone to my laptop with high hopes.

Your battery level should be at least 80% before you continue, it said. devilish

OK. It was only 78%. Plugged it in, and raised the level. Now on to the software repair. It goes through some procedure and then it asks you to make some manipulation with the volume control button which I find extremely motorically challenging. I must have succeeded with arms and legs, though, because it goes on to warn me to have my Google login ready if I'll safeguard against never being able to use the phone again and informs me that I am about to lose everything on my phone …. Well, I just tried that, and my SDcard supposedly still would have that info. Now a lenghty procedure starts, and I have hectic red spots on my neck and cheeks and frankly, I crave a G&T to help me through.
I feel as if I’m in the middel of a 30 mile pack drill … done 20 and have 10 miles ahead of me.

It took a while. New instructions: It says the software repair was successful smile and asks me to
1. Disconnect ’the unit’ and
2. Switch ’the unit’ on, keeping in mind that it will take longer than normal to start ’the unit’ after the software repair.
It did come to life. Imported contacts and called myself on the iPhone borrowed from Upstairs Yvonne.
Bummer …. crying

After all, it may be a physical defect with that microphone. I have run out of ideas.
It still has a warranty on it, so I’ll go to the store tomorrow …. In the meantime I might as well crunch a few for SeriousCrunchers. Set it to "Allow new tasks" cool
*******************************
Of course, if any of you wonderfully technologically gifted crunchers can give me a good suggestion, I’m absolutely open for that, somewhat through tears … crying
