Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

I intend to build a nest with top40.nl and see how it goes pindakaas and other kaaswise.
Thank you, lil' mermaid!
Perchance some Base Camper wants to say hello to long time cruncher and actively Forums contributing member:
adriverhoev
- and if it were not for him being awfully busy processing 400 OCR pages
needing corrections and proofreading, I’m sure he would have entered his team into the Christmas Race
I cannot see how it’s done, but my new captain probably knows himself, if he wants to do it.
At the moment - after having done 1 page biggrin - it seems I think I have a fair idea of how to move on. Here is e.g. the scanned page, and after finishing the OCR job there is output to save and to postprocess. The OCR output is quite reasonable, needs occasionally a little correcting here and there. Then it's time to add a few XML-tags that can be done automatically. The next step is to try adding more XML-tags automatically. As soon as that's all checked and looking good, then the final XML-tags can be added (describing the chart, e.g. its name and its date). Final step: loading the charts into the database. That's how I see it at this moment … nerd

BTW Has SNURK already told you what the verb 'snurken' (pronunciation) means in Dutch? Hint: sleep "Hij slaapt lekker" = He's sleeping nicely
What does he mean by "I don't snurk"??

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Nothing to thank for. My pleasure (and hoping to be fed some pindekaas and other kaasen? kaase?).

Yup, those OCR scans look very good. Which program do you use? I just have an IrfanView OCR plug-in, and that gives a disappointing result due for a lot of corrections from - I think - a nicely typed original. But then again, I use it for fun; you use it for 400 pages!

I would like to know, captain, if your/our team could enter into the Christmas Race, now you see those 400 pages will not kill you?
I don't want to be pushy, but it starts December 1st and I see top40.nl has been in races before.

No, SNURK has not answered one single question, like he has not given us even een beetje kaas.
Now I understand why.
He's chronically doing what I ought to be doing now. Snorke pronunciation - oh, so close! Perkele! I should have guessed. blushing
How come people hate to admit they snore?
And subsequently they end up as the living proof on YouTube videoed by their wives
biggrin
EDIT: Pronunciation of 'snorke' added. I think we have some common ground here tongue

Let's take this to FC Language United! coffee

Lately I've been using tesseract (mebbe take a quick peek at what they say on Wikipedia?). Before that I was using Cuneiform.

Good idea

I will out of curiosity.
Please enjoy your stay at the top40.nl hotel.
I cannot see how I could not enjoy my stay at top40.nl hotel. I may even upgrade the name to the Top10 Hotel which of course will be a conflicting thing to do considered what the name refers to.
How about **** so far? Aiming for the fifth cool
So far you have served me coffee and joined the Christmas Challenge as I hoped. Thank you
What more could I wish for? biggrin
Since you have no team thread, and I hardly ever see any visitors here let alone any Base Campers, I’m pleased that you come here. Please, make yourself at home, adriverhoef. Maybe we could make a bit of advertising for top40.nl and make a Base Camper join for any span of time during that Christmas Race?

This is not coffee. It’s hot cocoa coffee coffee the Danish cure-all for turning drabweather
- actually, any days except for hot ones - into hygge days.

My inherited cocoa tin has Dutch tile motifs: a canal with one of these tipping bridges, a fishing boat with sails and some strange trapping device hanging out into the sea on its left side – it must be a fishing net – and finally a windmill perhaps like your father’s. I Googled cocoa tins, and several came up with Dutch connections: Young ladies with these big white headdresses and other Dutch motifs, and several with the name ’Droste’ which I believe still is a chocolate company.
Would cocoa have been imported big time from the Dutch East Asian posessions at those times to be processed in the Netherlands and exported to the rest of Europe/the rest of the World?

EDIT: I'm very very sorry for misspelling you name, Adri.
I corrected it here and will go back and do it whereever it's possible
blushing

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Afternoon Base Campers
We have a proxy trek again. top40.nl entered the Christmas Race, and we can play the reindeer pulling Adri’s sledge.
So if any of you have surplus capacity after having covered all your own needs, any little WU will be valued by my captain and me.

For me it was among other things free dance day – Livin’ the Vida Loca
- and my German teacher mentioned that his curriculum in 1972 had Nederlands in it! shock
I’ll quiz him about how much he remembers next time.

I know it's early, but that Christmas Race begins tomorrow batting eyelashes

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers!
I’m confident you’re out there somewhere tongue
Today, the Christmas Race began, and I should be pleased if anyone of you decided to help top40.nl get off to a good start and/or give a hand at any point during this 25-day-race. I tried to lease mike047 from SeriousCrunchers, but it seems captain sujo1 has committed his team to each and every challenge he ever laid his eyes on. So, of course mike047 has to ’crunch hard crunch often’ with SeriousCrunchers. Forever!
But let’s see how it pans out, captain Adri.
Oh, and I think I cracked the bureaucratic legislation concerning joining challenges:
You have to be a captain idea – it's not something to be entrusted your ordinary ship mates.

In Denmark we established a staterun company during the ’oil crises’ of the early 1970’s. Eventually it became more of a utility distributing company with wind farms and taking part in oil and natural gas production in the North Sea. The name of it was
Dansk Olie og Naturgas – Danish Oil and Natural Gas – shortened to DONG.
I cannot judge how ’DONG’ plays internationally. It may sound silly.
Anyway they decided to get a new name and settled for Ørsted with a reference to H. C. Ørsted, a Danish scientist who invented the ’right hand rule’ and was very much into magnetics and electricity, and who also also has a satellite
named for him, which so far has been operational for almost 19 years. It specializes in collecting data concerning Earth’s magnetic field.

I thought: what a disaster renaming DONG (no matter how silly it plays globally) into Ørsted. No other countries have our ’Ø’. But their new logo is so wonderfully elegant:

The international pictogram for on/off.

In other news USAFA 82 has promised to help me aquire a split personality using ’remote desk top’
That should give me a little more wiggle room to use for – I don’t know yet, but just having the possibility will give me a feeling of Freedom

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers!
See, you ARE out there - here is the proof:
This morning we had the pleasure of welcoming yodap, a Crunching@EVGA cruncher to top40.nl helping us making una bella figura in the Christmas Race.
Would we be lucky enough to get more help today or the days to come?
So far, I haven’t seen how we came from start; there is no update yet as of the time of this writing.
I wish captain Athenagoras the creator of the Christmas Race 2017 of Team Special: Off-Topic would ask Saphir12 to teach him how proper daily reporting from a race can be done. I'm sure he can do it.
Tour de France, roll over, when Saphir12 love struck reports from the Kraland Challenges!
Small news
* Went to see ’Victoria and Abdul’ yesterday. It tells about an unusual and deep friendship between the widowed and depressed Queen Victoria and the Indian prison recordkeeper who happens to be shipped to England to present themohur because he happens to be tall. Surprisingly, it seems the movie is based on records that this devoted friendship did happen.
* Afterwards we had stoneagesandwiches at Café Elysia. My friend had been there before, and she has now added it to her list of favorites, and I look forward to going again with my Danish reading club friend come Monday.
* Had to replace a halogen bulb in my bathroom light fixture. I really hate it. Not because of setting up the ladder, not because of feathering the wash basin with towels in order not to break the glass shade - or the wash basin itself - but because of the terrible scratching noise from that G9 socket when you pull out the broken bulb – which by the way no longer looks like a bulb, nor as we call it (and I think it’s the better name) in Denmark: a pear!. Argghh!
How comes bulbs dies in twos?
* The one in my entrance died the day after. It’s a halogen as well but smartly built into a regular E14 socket bulb. That one will be available as a low energy sort of LED now.
OMG the bulb market has grown as confusing as the transformation of Pounds/Shillings/Pence into the decimal system were for the British d oh
* Saphir12-Nathalie, my Sony Xperia, needs a visit to the emergency ward. Her back panel is sealed onto the rest of the phone making her dust and water proof, and normally you would have to use a drier to get it off if you for instance need to change her battery, but the sealant they used after having replaced her microphone in Sweden cannot take the heat literally spoken. So I have to go and have that fixed. Hopefully they can do it locally.
* To top it all off: We now have proof that the Abominable Snowman is a bear.

Please join top40.nl today smile
