Good Morning Base Campers!
I hope you arrived safely to your home teams. I fell into my recliner with Crunching@EVGA with a cup of soothing camomile tea after the bout with Saphir12-Nathalie's microphone yesterday and put my feet up, looking forward to the 13th Birthday Challenge starting in 20 hours 57 minutes 44 seconds as I write this. For our next trek I have SNURK & Friends in mind. So many of us run around with SNURK signs. I can tell from SNURK & Friends’ member list that Base Camp made a trek there in the fall of 2013 while I was down and out. Base Camp finds it OK to return and do second – even third – treks. I believe we have been to Team Christians three times. I would find it in order to say thank you to SNURK once more for his selfless and generous contribution to the pleasant atmosphere here in our Forums. I have noticed that one of the first things new crunchers do is to find SNURKS’s thread: I made a new forum signature. They do it as if it was an instinct like the one homing pigeons come with. They start off their post count by placing their very first one with a request in SNURK’s thread. A few days later we see them thanking for their shiny new SNURK signs, which SNURK has embroidered for them all night long. Your views on this trek are invited as are suggestions for a time frame. It would be a pity to choose a period where most of you are busy elsewhere. I’m just a mermaid wiggling around at seaweed level, but many of you are like drones who have the bird’s eye view and know all about challenges and such. What do you say? |

For those who have the patience:
----------------------------------------This is a Scandinavian affair. I went to the electronics and appliance store – a Danish branch of Elgiganten , a Norwegian company – and since I had made every test in the book and then some there was no discussion that Saphir12-Nathalie’s microphone was kaputt, and now she is on her way to a Swedish hospital. She’s expected to recover fully within some two weeks. Microphone failure regardless of makes was not all that uncommon, the customer service agent said. Elgiganten lent me an adapter for the itty bitty nano SIM card so Mr Jones could become a stand-in. But I couldn’t call. I had stripped him of everything ![]() Well, the reset gave me that phone icon back, but it deleted my BOINC. Connecting to my wireless router was difficult as well. And when I tried to download BOINC from the Google Play app store, Google Play stopped working each time I attempted. A reboot didn’t help. I tried to download it from the WCG website, which is difficult to handle on Mr Jones’s small screen. Geeezz! BOINC tells me I can download the android client from Google Play store … Oh, I see. Why didn't I think of that ![]() One more reset to factory ones, connecting to wi-fi, Google Play still doesn't work ![]() Norwitchian, DO take me to that tropical island, please …. The good news: Upstairs Yvonne ![]() ![]() ![]() EDIT: Music added ... [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 15, 2017 6:28:12 PM] |

Hi Base Campers,
- sorry, I couldn't find any smaller cat ![]() ![]() How it happened last night, I don’t really know. I didn’t sleep, nor was I awake, just played around with Mr Jones in a sleep deprivation trance. All of a sudden it seemed I had BOINC downloaded from some mirror website, I think, and furthermore I had another version of Google Play installed – or was it just the icon? I had a shopping bag and got a triangle Anyhow, it happened, and in theory Mr Jones can crunch, but due to his ultra slim specifications he will not be able to get any WUs until he doesn’t have to be my telephone any more and I can strip him of contacts, Google Play icons, boxers ![]() Mr Jones is looking forward to reenter this happy version of his life. I’m happy to see that mike47 found himself a base at SeriousCrunchers and will keep sujo1 company, and so far both tanner2 and Howdy2you2 seem to enjoy the SeriousCrunchers atmosphere so much that they are in no hurry to move on either. One of the very desirable side effects of Base Camping ![]() Currently Crunching@EVGA is #17 in the 13th Birthday Challenge If any seasoned, new, or prospective Base Camper is walking around rootless without a home Crunching@EVGA has more comfortable recliners. I, not having been able to sleep properly since my return from New York City some two months ago, seem to enjoy the atmosphere at Crunching@EVGA too. This morning I fell asleep in my recliner in their sitting room and barely made it to my German class in time bringing Upstairs Yvonne's cake, but forgetting my homework. This afternoon I reacted to this ad : Come and dance yourself happy Why not? ![]() and danced myself into oblivion together with a three other women in the basement of Multihuset and was rewarded with three new friends and three hours of sleep afterwards. ![]() |

Dears Campers !
---------- Today, as winter does not inspire me here, I invite you to come where I met the sea. Where I have both learned to swim, and see what it's a storm. One of the places that is the most in the West in Brittany, and therefore in France. A rocky tongue that sinks into the ocean. This is how you have to see it the first time, and have a good picnic. It's already very impressive. ---------- And then we must come back, when the sea is angry, and remind us that it is the strongest. There, we understand better why all sailors respect it as much. ---------- To get a better idea of the size and importance of lighthouses. wikipedia Bienvenu là où j'ai grandit, et dédicasse à mon papy ... ---------- Welcome where I grew up, and dedicate to my grandpa ... ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 17, 2017 1:43:19 AM] |

Oh my! That Cheshire Cat is the real thing
![]() She’s much smaller when viewed in Internet Explorer than the fat one she is in Chrome ….. ![]() Leisure stefada, you keep spoiling us ![]() - not to mention Saphir12’s link to her hometown of Narbonne. Phew! ![]() Brittany, Bretagne, that wild, wild part of France that I think is more of it’s own than any other place in France. They (you, stefada, too?) speak a language of their own I think, they/you are proud, and selfdependent. Could the Brétons be imagined going the Catalan way? Your pictures and links are beautiful and gives a perfect second hand impression of the Northern Bay of Biscayne at work. Your Grandpa – and all other sailors – must have been very courageous going to sea after having seen that. But he survived and even brought the Martinique rum back to his family. He must have been a wealthy man being able to aquire all that quality wine and champagne. Was he a shipowner? The problem with the trips you arrange for us is: What shall I do? ![]() I want to see it all … first hand - in person - on the spot(s) ![]() Saphir12, help me, please - oh, well, you're an accomplice of stefada's ![]() You linked to your original hometown of Narbonne, and here you mention l’Affrique. Does that really mean ’Africa’ in spite of the double ’f’s? And if so: How did it get it’s name, do you think? You went to see a circus there with animals - from Africa? Was that a traveling circus or a permanent one? Business Crunching@EVGA started out #13 in the 13th Birthday Challenge sliding to a decent #17 - now we slid to #18 ![]() These guys are so busy all over the Distributed Computing World doing every project anyone cared to create, competing in each challenge put in front of them. If they concentrated their efforts here, I’m sure …. well ... - and that said by me who is at my most handicapped just when I needed that Rechenkraft the most … ![]() |

Little Mermaid
--------- Brittany is polluted because of the intensive breeding of pigs, I do not even want to talk about it so much it's sad ... I prefer to talk about sailors, who come out when everyone comes back to port. The Bee Flanders, a tug capable of tugging a tanker or a container ship, in currents not possible. It is the most frequented and the most dangerous place in the sea line. clic [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 17, 2017 10:43:57 PM] |

It isn't "Africa’ , but a litlle village, Saint-Affrique , in Aveyron.
----------------------------------------The local tradition is that around 470, Affricanus, bishop of Comminges persecuted by the Visigoths Arians, takes refuge in the "Vicaria Curiensis" which then takes the name of "Saint-Affrique" |

That's quite another story, Saphir12, with bishops and Visigoth Arians.
I kind of liked the idea of Africa .... |

Brittany is polluted because of the intensive breeding of pigs, I do not even want to talk about it so much it's sad ... Are you ready for some figures, stefada? Denmark is a little less than double the size of Brittany Denmark’s population is 5,731,000 people as of 2016 Denmark’s number of pigs is 12,695,000 as of October 1, 2017 ~ 2 pigs for each human. And it seems we count pigs more frequently than we count people. We use to sell a lot of bacon to England. How that will be after Brexit, I don’t know. I prefer to talk about sailors, who come out when everyone comes back to port. The Bee Flanders, a tug capable of tugging a tanker or a container ship, in currents not possible. It is the most frequented and the most dangerous place in the sea line. I always heard that the storms in the Bay of Biscay were some of the worst, that even Pas de Calais could be dangerous. Your video shows that. The North Sea between England and Denmark is dangerous as well, this old lifeboat scene shows. |

On parle chiffre ?
---------- Are we talking about numbers? I'll just give one! If right now, a fairy makes that there is more intensive breeding of pork in Brittany, it will take 100 years before the water of the groundwater is again drinkable. I saw sows crush their own offspring - and put them to death - because of their weight and the lack of space. Do not ask me to talk about this, please La mer est dangereuse partout, même la Méditéranée (qui est un peu une grosse flaque). ---------- The sea is dangerous everywhere, even the Mediterranean (which is a bit of a big puddle). The weather can completely change in less than 30 minutes! All is calm, we take advantage, and suddenly there is a storm coming from the South, and there you have to go back to port as fast as you can. But Ushant Rail is something else. The Atlantic Ocean and the Channel meet, and all the boats that pass through must pass by. It's Cape Horn of Europe, and a boat coming to your home, from America or Africa, has been there. And since Amoco Cadiz, there is a whole system of control. That Brittany, normally, it should be more landscapes like that. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 18, 2017 6:11:13 AM] |
