Re: The Formula One Thread

Renault has appointed Bob Bell as temporary new head of its Formula One in the aftermath of one of the sport's biggest scandals.
Bell is a former technical director. He replaces Flavio Briatore, who left the team amid allegations by Nelson Piquet Jr. that he was ordered crash at last year's Singapore Grand Prix to help teammate Fernando Alonso win.
Renault received a suspended ban from the sport at a hearing in Paris on Monday. Briatore was banned indefinitely from F1.
Renault says in a statement Wednesday that Bell also will act as chief technical officer. Jean-Francois Caubet takes over as managing director. Caubet was previously director of marketing and communications.
They will lead the team until the end of the season.

Re: The Formula One Thread

To something different

The Singapore Grand Prix. It looks like being cooler than last year's inaugural race, with temperature highs between 28 and 29 degrees Celsius all weekend, and a strong likelihood of thunderstorms each day.

The race will run over 61 laps of the 5.073-kilometre (3.152-mile) circuit, or 309.316 kilometres (192.209 miles). It starts at 2000 hours local time, which is eight hours ahead of GMT.

There have been several changes to the track. The pit entry has been realigned to leave the track before Turn 22, and the pit exit has been realigned to join the track after the first corner. There are new kerbs on the entry to Turns One and Five, and a new surface between Turns Five and Seven.

The second and third apexes of Turn 10 have been moved left and right respectively to make the chicane slower, and the three apexes of Turn 10 have been redesigned in order to reduce the risk of a car being damaged if it crosses them. The apexes of Turns 13 and 14 have been tightened slightly. And the wall around the outside of Turns 22 and 23 has been moved closer to the track.

He is finished in F1 unless Daddy buys him a team.
The boy is soiled goods.

If he was an exceptional talent he might get another chance after several years penance. However he has not proven to be exceptional at all.
Given the huge pool of wannabe drivers of comparable talent, why would any team want to be associated with him.

Re: The Formula One Thread

Yes . .

The Australian lapped his RB5 in 1m 49.317s to Vettel's 1m 49.621s, but then spun in the final corner and damaged the right-hand side of his car against the wall, bringing out the red flag for the second time in the day. When the session resumed Vettel soon pushed ahead, with 1m 48.650s.

Fernando Alonso improved to 1m 48.924s for Renault right at the end of the hour and a half, pushing Heikki Kovalainen down to third, the Finn having lapped his McLaren in 1m 48.952s.

Nick Heidfeld, who had earlier on been quickest for BMW Sauber, was fourth on 1m 49.098s. The German had a gearbox change in the earlier session, but it remains to be seen whether he will incur a grid penalty.

Jenson Button was fifth for Brawn on 1m 49.311s, with Webber sixth on the strength of his 1m 49.317s. Yet again the times in the midfield were very tight; Nico Rosberg was seventh for Williams on 1m 49.333s, just ahead of Timo Glock who took his Toyota round in 1m 49.342s and Lewis Hamilton, who did 1m 49.358s in the second McLaren. Then came BMw Sauber's Robert Kubica (1m 49.609s), Brawn GP's Rubens Barrichello (1m 49.616s), Force India's Adrian Sutil (1m 49.710s), Toyota's Jarno Trulli (1m 49.795s) and Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen (1m 49.941s), rounded out those below 1m 50s. biggrin

Re: The Formula One Thread

Button managed to edge Rubino in the second Practise

Turn 17 (yes that turn) claimed another Renault as the Replacement for bad boy Piquet Jnr, Romain Grosjean stuffed it in the wall.
The radio message was "Sorry guys lost the car in turn 17"
I don't think that was a technique he was supposed to practise but
I expect the car wasn't Balanced due to the removal of the Logos devilish

Weather at he track .
There is a possibility of Thunderstorms for Qually today and maybe for race

Re: The Formula One Thread

And Felipe Massa is recovering well and has resumed fitness training after the horrific injuries he sustained at the Hungarian Grand Prix in July, Ferrari said on Friday.

Earlier this month, Massa said he was having an operation to implant a titanium infused plate into his head, so that next season he will be ready to race again.

Ferrari team principal Stephano Domenicalli said Massa would not be rushed back, but added that he was recovering well.

"Felipe is recovering quite well," he said on the sidelines of the Singapore Grand Prix.

"He has started a fitness training programme so the next step after that is to start on the simulator and then on karts.

"As soon as these things are fine then we will decide when to bring him back in a proper racing car."

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has made clear he plans to retain Massa next year but has yet to decide who will be his partner with speculation mounting that Kimi Raikkonen will be dumped in favour of Fernando Alonso. smile
