angry Re: Un-official Grid.org Refugee Transition Center.

Hi, I just moved over from Grid .org. I found out today that they are shutting down!
Does anyone know what happens to all the results returned?
Are they just disregarded?
I 've been doing this for at least three years with them and feel as if I've been wasting my resourses running their program in my machines.
I feel that they have treated all the people who volunteer their machines
very badly.
Many people who thought they could help do some good in the world will seriously reconsider before signing up again !
How sad sad

crying You know, my first responce was like that. To turn my machines off with a sludgehammer. crying
The work was not wasted. It has entered a new phase. For research to to parce through alllllll that data. Its a valid phase, just a part we dont play in.

The hope is that our work will fuel research. It has been through our efforts that this has been made possible. Else no profit making group would have tried. And grid.org would have been a project that never happend.

So, dont be too sad. In the end, I'll think you will see the other end, and be proud.

Re: Un-official Grid.org Refugee Transition Center.

I just realised that I never was a very active forum user at grid.org, but I read a lot of stories. I could never have guested that this would make such an impact...

(only a few hours left) sad

I promise to be more on line here...

I even created a team for the first time... and the first UD client is already crunching wink Boinc is set up at home...

a fresh start... and now... it's time to b*tch and moan grid.org style :
When do we finally receive new cancer WU's?

Re: Un-official Grid.org Refugee Transition Center.

I understand the next cancer project has been reviewed and sent off for a security audit.

I hope they beta test it. Beta test work for new projects is sent out anonymously, so you won't (wink, wink) know what it is. But so far, the beta test system has mostly been used for working out bugs in launched projects. I'm not sure there is a policy for beta testing projects before launch. A lot of testing is done in-house, but until the problems we had with HPF2, there was no need for extensive beta testing.

Oh, the joys of non-deterministic computing!

If there isn't a policy, I think there should be. I'll check, and ask nicely if needed..... ;-)

Oh, and grid refugees: (have to call you something better than that!) if you want to join the beta project, look here: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewBetaProfiles.do You can opt-in any of your device profiles. At the moment, beta testing is only available for BOINC. This is mostly because UD doesn't give any error feedback, so the techs can do their beta testing "in the wild" - but it's a b*gg*r when things do go wrong, as I'm sure you know....
