woohoo! I was #4 for results returned yesterday ![]() ![]() WTG!! You're smoking! ![]() I haven't looked to see where I fall in the order. I just want to find cures! 60 machines crunching 24/7 isn't bad, but they can't keep up with your 17 dual Xeons! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

It's only because I switched them all to Genome Comparison which is a very short job - it also seems to run better on the three P4's i'm using too.

I switched my much more modest quantity of PCs to genome comparison too, we'll see how it effects the daily numbers, I guess tomorrow.

(note: I started this post at 10pm my time. So some of the info reflects this thread about 6hrs ago. I just had to "come too" to finish it.)
----------------------------------------Well, a bunch of things to say today: Pepe88 passes Courine! Wow, I better get more systems up! We have a new guy, Sentinal. He is an old member rejoining. Welcome back aboard Dan! The team has made the top 11 spot on daily results and will be pulling squarely into the top 1000 all-time all-round competition. Why?: As cargod (team's runtime king at over 2yrs) and our CPU time help match Roger's mega result making ability, we pull evenly together toward a goal that many teams here will never see even after year of service here at WCG. In just a few months?!?! Last but hardly least, Roger. It is my privilege and honor to announce that our fellow teammate has again broken his own records. Something that we almost seemingly were getting use to yesterday, has reached a new stunning level, today! Congrats Roger, you not only made the top 50 for time yesterday, you made #4 in personal daily results. Well done soldier! I’m sure I can speak for all of us, keep up the good work! You are a credit to this team's uniform. <formal salute w/ personal handshake> I wish at this time to salute us all. What has happened here is nothing less than amazing. The nature of the formation as we stand is so balanced, that it allows the most possible growth, across the widest fronts, with the least need for change to do so. Realize, if I tried to, I could have not done it better. This now coupled with leadership honed by fire, then annealed by years, with its traditions only surpassed by excellence realized (well back in 3062): that it is safe to say "we have quite a ride ahead" and as I have said before, "I have no plans on loosing this war anytime soon". So, when you see our tag, realize when you read those 3 words, you are not looking at an ad, it speaks the truth. A truth we breath here everyday! A truth that others are beginning to understand by example: Team ___In2My.Net___. "Always Beyond Expectation!" ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 5 times, last edit by courine at May 23, 2007 12:21:14 PM] |

To give you an idea of the power of the dual CPU Xeons vs a simple P4, look at this comparison.

Well my set is quite variable in computing power, but I am biting a larger piece of that pie every day 8o)
With the change to doing only genome comparison my slower PCs will provide a much more even performance on the graphs I guess. Also I will lose less unsaved work due to W98 freezing every day a few times. |

yes, and less headache.
----------------------------------------Im moving some of the old 98se machines to nt4.0. you can get the disc's for a song, as it is so old the updating has stopped. but for us, this means that a very stable platform can be had to sooth the savage blue screen of death for those older machines. when it comes to a new machine, what we need to figure heavaly into the decision is cost of ownership. If the unit is to be used only for here, then it can be cost optimized not only for performance but to save power by not having to power components that these agents dont use. like no audio, modem or performance video. in fact you need little more than a bare bones box. or even better still, a very basic duo w/ mobo and some matching ddr ram. then infuse the low end machine. use the now freed up ram in the machines left to improve their performance and decommision the old cpu/mobo. Keep as a temporary spare if needed. What you will find, even though you still have the same number of machines, your low end machine is now your main machine and turning 10 times the flops for only twice the power. But then you will need to re-arrange the main perriferal cards in to the new main machine to be really happy. In the end, you will actually spend no money and save from that point on. making it well worth your while. meaning, to get the same perfomance using slower machines would cost so much just to power, that by the end of one year, the upgrade would pay for itself. ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by courine at May 24, 2007 12:13:08 PM] |

cargod, we really fell off today. ![]() ![]() ![]() 12th with the number of members we have is amazing. When you & MM get a couple more machines online, we'll be really zooming! Some of the work units seem to be taking longer, so my results have been bouncing a little from day to day. BOINC seems to crunch faster so I am trying to get back to the machines I installed UD Agent on & switch them to BOINC. As spread out as they are, it takes a while. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
