PC upgrade and spare parts

I finally upgraded my home PC's RAM from 512MB CL2.5 to 2x1GB 2-3-2-5 OCZ memory.

And I have one spare mainboard, most likely it's dead, but what if there is a chance to reanimate it?
It's ECS (Elite Group) K7VMM 1.2A based on VIA chipset for AMD socket A, with Duron 1.4GHz CPU. It has both SDRAM and DDR RAM slots, so I was stupid and forgot to remove DDR module, when placed SDRAM memory. Now it looks dead, not a sound, cooler does not start, no leds light up, not a single beep, CMOS resetting does not help, so it's packed somewhere on shelf for last year or so.
Can anyone tell, is it just mainboard, or I killed also CPU? I ask so, because as far as I know, AMD CPU's had memory controller built in.

Re: PC upgrade and spare parts

Durons didnt have the memory controller built in afaik. Its the Athlons that introduced the new technology.
Try to test the CPU in another MB, but most likely its just waste of electricity...
I'd go for a newer but still cheap system if I were you.

Sure, it's not the most powerful CPU, well... maybe I'll get few bucks for it or i'll ust give it away to someone who needs it.
Thank you!

Is my memory whacked?
I thought the Duron was to the Athlon what the Celeron was to the Pentium. Or is that the Sempron? LOL
A reduced onboard cache version of the same CPU to reduce the cost.
Either way, you may be able to find a new board dirt cheap since the CPU is no longer available.
A little faster MB/CPU would be

cool Re: PC upgrade and spare parts

The case is that for Lasis it would cost more to get any parts delivered, than the parts themselves...

I guess he should look for parts in Latvia.

WTG Lasis thnx for the votes!

My Russian is really rusty, I couldn't read most of what I found when I tried to search for parts suppliers in that area.
It's only been 33 years since my last Russian language class, am I getting forgetful in my old age? LOL

Tell me Lasis, you have an email addy? I could use it as I have no way to reach you in the event something with the team. Not that I expect there will be, just have been through the grid.org thing, I would feel a lot safer.

Oh, and i go noij noij noij, smokin blunts, drink'in beers. Who's got the beers? We got the beers! But I'm really more of a Chasing Amy type.
