De Mauro gives several explanations, but 'The Cultivated Land at the Castle On The Sea' is where i spend my days, mostly. The Chiesa Della Madonna Dei Sette Dolore (Church of the Madonna of the Seven Pains) is on the other side of the hill.... it's where i often visit the little square with the best coffee there is..... up Didactylos' lane, a new one i heard yesterday morning "Cappuccio Deca".... not on the menu....1.10 Euro. One day i tally them all and the regional variations..... they're not always called the same :O)

Talking of Churches.. Charlotte Church of Charlotte Church Fame
---------------------------------------- 's Mum Maria has just opened a fancy fashion boutique in Cardiff called Chiesahttp://icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/featu...teid=50082-name_page.html how random is that? I must be bored. Is a Caffé Lungo the same as an espresso with twice as much water in it or am I missing a trick Sek. We like the rest of Britain fell for the incessant advertising and bought one of those fancy coffee machines for Christmas This thread really is the cure for insomnia LOL ![]() |

Sekerob,
----------------------------------------I do not have your facility for many languages, but might suggest a different English rendering for Chiesa Della Madonna Dei Sette Dolore : Church of the Madonna of the Seven Sorrows. Either way I guess we get the picture. Cheers Sgt.Joe Minnesota Crunchers

Your (artistique) rendition is fein Drillmeister..... Sorrow > Dispiacere > Displeasure > Fastidio > Annoyance ..... hmmmm Babelfish. I just wonder what a fashion boutique sells and what the targeted population is when called 'Chiesa' .... robes with glitter? :O
----------------------------------------I was woken up because the PSU started to beep...... yawn.... back to my warm bed.... no long coffee to keep me awake cheerio

Sek in the TV interview Miss Church came up with the idea because she gets called Charlotte Chiesa in Italy
----------------------------------------Back in Cardiff (and so I don't make any enemies in Wales also in the rest of GB as you can't be too careful these days) Chiesa is a suitably obscure/sophisticated name for a boutique. Tuesday has it btw Now where is that espresso... ![]() |

Here's something for the multi linguists.
I'm about to buy, I hope, a lovely Dutch made bicycle saddle from a Frenchman on Ebay. Here's the problem. The vendor has quoted for surface mail shipping to Aus, which is impossible for insurance reasons. I used babel fish to ask for an airmail quote, which I got back quoted in Euro. I need to ask the vendor to invoice me in $US for the airmail option so that the transaction through PayPal will go smoothly and then send it that way. Does the following (Babel fish) make sense? Could it be improved? Merci de l'enchère. Veuillez me facturer pour embarquer par l'intermédiaire de la poste aérienne comme précédemment disposée. Pour votre convenance, une conversion de devise est disponible à <www.xe.com>. Something to do for a minute for somebody... Cheers ozylynx ![]() |
