Is 'stupefyingly bored' or 'bored witless' proper english...... been watching this thread and come to realize, that all the respondents but me are native english speakers...... is it to be referred to hence forth as the 'english boring decease'?
----------------------------------------Yesterday read that somewhere in 1956(?) the French begged to become a member of the Common Wealth and Elisabeth II was almost Queen of them too...... they must have had too much Pernod when they did, or had a hidden agenda..... 50 years later, all English would have spoken French.... finally a second language u'd have to master..... which in 2057 would have become the first language, like it will be in Canada..... The French word for bed is lit (pronounced as 'lee' for starters) :0 Not Bored, just entertained :D

'stupefyingly bored' or 'bored witless' perfect english
----------------------------------------stupefaction - the inability to think clearly because of boredom, tiredness, or amazement It's kind of a removing of brain/mind/soul from the current tedious reality so that you can go on flights of fancy. I'm fairly sure Stonehenge was built out of sheer boredom imagine not having Books, Newspapers, Google, Stumbleupon, the WCG even Big Brother on the telly where you can watch the lives of your psuedo friends while yours passes by and none of the discovery channels. You can imagine the scene Ancient Britons lying in a field near Boscombe Down watching the clouds sailing by... Ancient Briton 1: "I'm bored anyone up for painting ourselves blue again" Ancient Briton 2: "We did that yesterday" Ancient Briton 1: "Do you know more than 70% of my email is Spam" Ancient Briton 2: "Stick to the script we're not going to know that for another 7000 years stupid" 5 more minutes ticks by Ancient Briton 1: "Lads anyone up for building a Henge" Ancient Briton 2: "What's a Henge........" Sek on my earlier literary travels Lig was also olde englishe for bed Lawrence is your man though for etymology - now there's a word I didn't know 3500 posts ago![]() |

etymology... 'lig' is likely from across the (small) pond..... 'ik lig' meaning 'i lie' (in bed). The German is 'Ich liege' and the Italian 'in letto' is also 'in bed'.
----------------------------------------That covered 5 languages without the use of a dictionary.... Pedant, someone will think.... time to put a hook into that one: Translates into 2 Italian words: Pedante and Pressuntivo..... now u(plural) don't need a dictionary to guess what the translation is of the latter :O Has the pulse risen.... my doctor recommends heart rate 140 at least once a day :D Time to put on the opera 'Nessun Dorma', but that's just a twist in my mind..... on Puccini i think better. Enjoy today, for there might not be a tomorrow

My children have have referred to me as most annoyingly boring. They have gone to calling me "Mr.Fun" (facetiously of course because I suck the fun out of any activity like a black hole sucking up light, never to have it reappear.) They have waxed rhapsodaically of my boringness permeating the atmosphere at any gathering, becoming a soporific more powerful than a political economic speech.
----------------------------------------There is nothing like a good Rossini overture to get you rollicking. Or perhaps a good Offenbach. I however never think of myself as being bored. Even if I appear to have nothing to do, I can let my mind go in any direction, to think thoughts from unexpected angles and maybe, just maybe, think an original thought. So much to know, so little time. Cheers Sgt. Joe Minnesota Crunchers
