From the numbers, the 2 files are part of a single FAAH task. What does the task tab say on the WU... Uploading, Ready to Report....anything else? It just said uploading. I decided to just abort them, and move on. It's not worth the time to debug, and other WUs are working normally. ![]() |

What kind of luck are people with the boinc 5.8.x betas? Is it worth risking the time to install it over ...or beside 5.4.11??? The current alpha-clients has the same problem as older clients, the possible fix won't show-up before in v5.8.4. ![]() "I make so many mistakes. I don't know, maybe the enhanced GUI in the new clients isn't worth replacing the 5.4.11 for, :-). ![]() |

It's sliding off topic, but the 5.8 check-pointing save before preempting is the greatest boon from a crunching perspective...... lossless project switching without the need to have, most of the times, a 'keep in memory', which is much more efficient on the resources. Even when keep in memory is off and BOINC senses that a switch is needed, will it automatically use KIM to prevent progress loss.
----------------------------------------A much more comparable benchmark result of Linux v Windows..... it's getting there, needing a bit more work. The BOINC Simplified GUI aka BSG is also an advance, because it allowed outside the BOINC frame to include a screen of most frequent used options, without the need to dabble with xml files or go to the website to change conditions. AND, many more of the options will be added in a future release. So far, 'my' perspective.

BOINC 5.4.11 or 5.4.9 depending on OS is the officially WCG supported version as at this writing.... see the one and only central and certified download page: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php and bookmark it. BOINC 5.8.x is for those not shy of testing and running the risk of facing one or the other issue. Lots of volunteers to help you out.
----------------------------------------When reporting a problem it's important to include the version of software and project, as else we'd get very confused, particular with problems relating to new features that many dont know yet.

Thanks for that perspective Sek, now I'm confused. Please advise me as to what version of BOINC I should use, :-). v5.4.9 or later. :) Until v5.8.xx is released, it's safest to keep running v5.4.xx. As for why upgrade, this is really subjective for users. But, a couple would be: 1; Stalled downloads won't block work-request from other projects. 2; If project goes fully down, including web-server unaccessible, it's only a 1-day deferral, not 1 or 2 weeks deferral. 3; On multi-cpu, 1 CPDN-wu in deadline-trouble won't sit idle until it's deadline is past while only short-deadline-work is run instead. Also, cache will be re-filled as normal, not only when idle cpu. BTW, while #1 is primarily for every time SETI@home's download-server goes down but scheduling-server keeps running, it's actually also a benefit for WCG, due to all the MD5-errors on fcg1-wu. Of course, it will only work if runs multiple projects... Hopefully, next alpha-v5.8.4 will fix the MD5-problem, but no idea on when will hit alpha... Hmm, if WCG haven't any plans of fixing their broken fcg1-wu, it will likely be an idea to enforce v5.8.4 if the client-fix is working... ![]() ![]() "I make so many mistakes.
