Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

Well the pennies have been saved worried for my Eldest's Christmas Present as she is going to do all that arty creative stuff for college.

Today the MacBook moves in

It's crunch time - this time not for Work Units.

(Until the BOINC gets installed smile)

The call of the Mac got louder every month and this time around 5 more Critical's and the unknown quantity of Vista is post Christmas.

Alas poor blue screen I knew him well

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

Unfortunately back in the World of Windows

It's a Monster patch Tues...Wednesday

This time IE7 is foisted upon us

and another round of restarts are called for

another round of validations (sneakily added when IE7 is installed)

and another Malicious Software Removal Tool

It really should with a name like that delete the great OS laughing

Enjoy

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

Hi Dave,

Had the IE7 final already...in English, as the Italian is not on offer yet, but baffled at the absence of an optional....just got an email from my bank to say that they are not compatible yet with IE7, but also FFx 2.0.....workaround to run it in IE6...... yeah right.

The rest was rather smooth, no requests for booting this time....how amazing, and suggesting some zero day holes were left that came to surface last week.

Give u a funny one.... the latest spam scan (3rd party) identified some registry remnants of Win Defender as partial trace of spyware HMBLM

ciao ciao

That's those Swiss Bank Accounts 4ya. smile Is your bank Firefox friendly yet? Mine came up with an idea a couple of months ago, they accept just the last 8 digits of the account without a space now. Instantly FF compatible. biggrin

Well my bank is a good bank, so they followed up just after my scribes. now they are ffx2.0 compatible and sure enough could log in again without having to resort to using IEtab (a IE frame inside inside ffx appearing as a tab).

Actually, they now use a challenge code on top....but in Swiss style, numbers only :D

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

Sad news. My computer just tried to auto restart after the updates download.
If you have critical stuff that doesn't like autorestarts it's time to act NOW!!

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

The critical updates require a reboot. There is also an optional peer-to-peer name resolution that requires a reboot if you download it.

Sorry ozylynx

I did see that but I forgot to mention it blushing

at the end of the IE7 download it asks you if you would like to restart now or later and then promptly restarts your PC itself before you get to hit the Later button

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

For those that dont like for the WUACLT.EXE to continuously call home and sneak CPU time on top every 60 minutes, or in case of received updates, every 30 minutes.... type "NET STOP WUAUSERV" in the command line or a DOS window. It will be gone until next boot, so u need to add a short cut in the autostart folder to send it to the pearly gates. Now have the red shield in the systray, to tell me it's not on.....can live with that for now ;>)

You are entirely on your own if u do this, just that you know!

cheers

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

It's Windows Patch Tuesday again.
http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,2071668,00.asp
I had to reboot twice - once after the critical security fixes (8+ MB) and once after the optional (Windows Media Player 11 at 24+MB plus some small changes, such as Australia's Daylight Savings Time change).

Oddly, McAfee AV complained about the installation script on one computer, so I had to click to run the script. AVG AntiVirus on the other computer was not worried.
