Re: Minnesota Crunchers

So, how many of those bonds are you snapping up at those firesale prices ??? laughing

Cheers

To be honest, I do not have high yield right now.
I do have _lot_ deposit on banks, that are having rating B+, in another words, those are high yield risk category.
But like on those Iceland bank, those who did buy bonds loose everything (well, they did get bank 0,05%) but all depositors were saved.

I think I did have high yield last times on 2007, but during that year (in very beginning) market start cof heavily and I'm those investors who give evacuation order rather that meet superior enemy. so I just take money and run.
On 2006 it really did not make any difference what kind of high yield to buy, because those all just kept growing. I did make something like 10 - 12 p.a. very easily.

But now a days, it would require huge amount of knowhow about corporations bookkeeping to make even lucky quest to know what corporations still exist after two years.
I simply do not have that kind of knowhow so I try avoid high yield right now.

But I do see your point very well, here is example of 40% paper:
http://unitedbankers.fi/yritys/tiedotteet/mreal_3kk

Maybe if I get pored enough, I study anatomy of corporation book keeping.
I try not to get entered to "battlefields" where landscape is not familiar, and owing something that cause worries me, would not probably be worth of that extra yield.
And also on another hand, if I would still have same position than year 2006, I would lost 60% of my original capital, so I do not have any kind of problem to be conservative investor.
I do not keep blaming my self that I'm not after highest yield possible. I'm very comfortable with my current doctrine... So very blushing

biggrin Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Hello all, new team member here. Glad I found a group of Minnesotans to contribute to. I've got two quad core boxes at home, though I usually only crunch on one or two cores on each most of the time. Also have an old Athlon64 that crunches around 60% and same with a new dual core laptop. At work I have one dual core box crunching on both cores.

Cheers,
- Dave

Dave, welcome to the forum and to Minnesota Crunchers. We are glad you picked our team.

I have yet been able to work on a quad core. All my PC are core 2 duo's or lower. Got about 30 of them crunching full bore and most 24/7. tongue

Looks like a beautiful day on tap here in the metro. 55-60 degrees today. Going out to see if I can spot some migrating birds.

Those all sound like nice boxes. You have been putting up some respectable numbers. We are glad to have you onboard. I have a motley crew of PIII's and low end P4's along with one AMD2000. They are not too powerful, but they are pretty dependable, although I have lost a few HDDs. I can usually replace them for $5 to $10 since most of the boxes (except for the AMD) just crunch and do not need big drives.

Boiling sap today. Starting to smell sweet here.
Cheers

Welcome aboard. What neck of the woods in minnesota are you at? I live up by St Cloud. Am currently crunching with 2 mac pro's. 1 octo and 1 quad. The quad is down pending an octo upgrade. Should be back crunching in about a week. biggrin

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Got my silver gingerbread man today. Whoa! Finally got my mac pro upgraded from a quad to an octo. Should be online in a week. Bumped it from a 2 ghz to a 2.33 ghz. Anyone need a pair of dual core xeons?
