Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Since the storms went through yesterday and last night the good news is we got 1.25 in (3.18cm) of rain. The bad news is we had two power outages. We are back to normal, but it required a bunch of resetting of systems. Very glad for the rain however. Sunny and warm today but the dew point is down so it is much more comfortable.
Cheers

The rain did some good here. Ground sucked it up like a sponge. Finally have green grass. Cutting my grass for 1st time since spring.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Fired up my other cruncher with the cooler temps. Hoping to replace my AMD 6 core with a 12 or 16 core chip. Might be closer to christmas for prices to drop before deciding.

I keep looking on the used market for better machines than what I have. I have seen some dual processor Xeon machines with 10 core E5-5665 cpus, but the price has been too much. They are usually loaded with max memory and numerous hard drives, which does up the price. I have seen a few quad processor machines, but I think they would draw too much electricity so I don't think I have the circuit capacity for any of those. They are priced out of my range also, at least for the time being.
I will keep looking however.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

20 years on covid project. Was going to upgrade one of my machines but will now hold off until I find out more on the move to a Canadian server. Will do my research to see if I will participate or not.

Congrats on the Covid badge. From doing a little research on Krembil, I am confident they will do a good job. But nothing is guaranteed. So far I am planning on sticking with WCG because I care about the present projects. If, for some reason, they no longer have projects in which I am interested I would have no hesitation to go elsewhere. So far so good. They appear to have good intentions, but the proof is in the execution of the changeover and the projects which will be forthcoming.
Still on the search for better and more efficient hardware.
Cheers

Yello fellows!

Did receive some newsletter prompting öbaut core item sold to Big White (local way to understand frontal areas next to some, like Canada or some...)

Think it was 2001 or some when some tiny company on Texas (United Devices) did ask me to share some cores..

Canada, really....
