Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I keep looking at AMD chips but do wonder if ARM processors would be better to build a cruncher with. Apple is switching over to arm. My new mac mini with a ARM processor works fairly fast. I think the biggest ARM processor is a 128 thread chip. Don't know enough about it though.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Ive looked at the ARM chips awhile back. It would be really fun to tinker with. There is a lot of Linux support and now some Windows support.

But I think OpenPandemics is the only project which has Arm-Linux. If you wanted more projects you would have to port Android, which is way beyond my ability.

I have a Raspberry Pi 4 and am eagerly awaiting a mini HDMI cable so I can start messing with it, mostly WCG but maybe other projects too. I'm curious to see how the Temps perform when under a full load, it's possible the case I got for it will shed enough heat but we'll see.

I will post updates on how it goes! Good luck on your replacement.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

A slight respite from the heat and humidity. 53F(11.7C) this morning. And we got a little rain for which we are thankful of .6 in (1.5cm). Not enough to relieve the drought, but welcome nonetheless.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Got a nice down pour this morning. We need it. More coming according to the forecast.
Did a search on arm processors. Not much above a quad core. I’ll keep an eye on amd ryzen chips. Currently looking at a 12 core and a 16 core. Not sure the mini system my son gave me with a 6 core Will handle a 16 core, even those asus says it will work with a bios update.

We have a 50% forecast of rain in my area for Thursday so I am hopeful. I am not expecting much out of my ARM but it does seem like it will be fun to tinker with.

First thing I learned is the difference between a mini and a micro hdmi! So waiting on the correct cable to arrive. whistling

Very nice rain and not too much wind. Got 1.7 in(4.3cm) here. Very welcome. I have been able to keep the garden green, but that is about it. My pumpkins and squash, what there are of them are about the size of baseballs. My potatoes are about the size of golf balls. There is still a chance with this moisture they might come back but frost is only about a month away.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

The rain has been great, but for reasons unknown my wireless link to the shed got hung or at least all the systems on it got their internet connections stuck. After some rejiggering and restarting and so forth, all is back in order. I probably lost about 2/3 of a day in processing, but these things happen. Hope all is well elsewhere.
Cheers
