All of my systems use SSD's. The added price is well worth the speed and like you mentioned lower electric costs over time. I haven't had to replace any SSD's for 3-4 years now either, knock on wood. They seem to be superbly reliable.

Went down to my mother's to finish off the hard maple tree we had started earlier. One of my brothers-in-law was in town so we took care of it. He got an Alaskan Mill and a chain saw with a 28 inch (71 cm) bar which is what we needed. We got four 3 inch(7.6cm) thick slabs about 5 ft(1.5m) long and four more about 7 ft (2.13m) long. We have them stacked inside with air spaces in between the slabs. It should take about 3 years to dry them. They vary in width from about 18 to 27 inches (46 to 68 cm). Currently they weigh about 100 to 130 lbs(45 to 60 kg.). Eventually we will be making tables and benches out of them. At least it was a nice day for the outside work, 38F(3C).

So nice to have the measurements in metric, too, capt. Joe, and your description is vivid.
Still, did you make pictures of this stage of the mother's maple tree process as well? In which case I for one would like to see when/if you get the time. |

They seem to be superbly reliable. Some funny item (there, not so necessary here), is that here on FI need to pay tax from electricity. Think b.a.u. on global matter, local extra spice is that there is tax for this tax. Jup, first I need to pay 2,3c/kWh tax, then I need to pay 24% VAT from that tax... Having time of my life for sure... Got some hunk a burning CPU, after my took 100% out of my items, all copper heat sinks turned to black... Crap.... http://aijaa.com/2morJD ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by ultimaThule at Dec 20, 2017 8:32:47 AM] |

Yes, that always puts a burr under my saddle when you get taxed on something for which you already paid a tax. We don't have a value added tax, but we do have a sales tax. At least they have had the decency to exclude food and clothing from the sales tax (there might be some exceptions for luxury items). Sales taxes are regressive even with these exceptions.
----------------------------------------You must have had some heat going in that laptop to turn the copper heatsink that color. Blocked intakes maybe ? Cheers

Merry Christmas to all of you Minnesota Crunchers.
Sgt. Joe, I did my best, honestly, I reminded ultimaThule where to go and when. I have copies in writing ... I'm very sorry, but I expect ultimaThule to deliver a message himself. Oh, he IS unharmed - physically - as for the rest, I believe he's himself as he use to be when he's not under dentist's sedation, in which case his English tops Queen Elizabeth II's Please forgive me. |

As I write this we have 2 hours left until the new year. That will be past my bedtime. So a Happy New Year to all and I hope 2018 is better than 2017 for everyone. Crunch on.
