@Capt. Joe: Have you been a teacher before in your career? If so: Do you find the students different from earlier? I hear that many teachers here get 'burned-out' not being able to 'handle' even getting threathened or physically confronted by students brought up by 'curling parents' or not being brought up by their parents at all. No, none of my previous career had anything to do with teaching in a school system. I was tapped to give certain training in my previous career. It was my goal to be a teacher and met all the requirements for a license when I graduated from college, but at that time the market for teachers was bad. They were laying teachers who had 10 to 15 years of experience, so the market for a new grad was close to non existent. So, I went and did other things like work in operations for a bank, work in inventory control for an electric co-op, work as a computer operator and work for local government. Once I retired, I thought I would try volunteering so I did a year in Math Corps, and then got my substitute license. Definitely not the career path for most substitute teachers. Some teachers do get burned out by classroom management issues and having to deal with unruly students. Most of the teachers I know teach because they care about the students. Some of the students come from pretty bad home situations, non caring parents, parents who do not know how to parent or parents who can not take the time for their children because they work too many hours at minimum wage jobs to make ends meet. I have been confronted by students, but have never thought I was being seriously threatened. I have broken up fights between students. If I did not think I was doing some good, I would not do it. Bearcat: I hope you can figure out how to get at least a little comfort from that brace. That thing sounds as uncomfortable as sitting on a cactus. Cheers

Yes, I realize that most of the troubled students come from families who are less fortunate in so many ways, and I think most teachers have a wish of doing some good for every individual child in their classes, especially the needy ones. The ideals of many teachers will cause a good deal of frustration in the real world, leading to disappointments and despair resulting in being burned out.
You being a mature male may have more natural authority which in turn elicits some natural respect from your students than say a young female teacher, whose insecurity is being sensed immediately by those who want to whip up trouble. I'm glad on your behalf that you finally got to do what you wanted, and I believe all the experience you have gained in the meantime benefits you as well as your students in the classroom now. |

It's a good time to be in the market for a new (or used for that matter) CPU. Lots of great new options from AMD as well as some good discounted Intel options to compete.
----------------------------------------AMD Epyc server chips are now for sale as well 32 core/64 thread for one chip. Crazy. It's not cheap though. [Edit 1 times, last edit by FlynRyan at Dec 12, 2017 9:25:12 PM] |

I did hear from FOX that Rubio was OK, but just a moment ago from Bloomberg that he's like so nöy.... Sure beat watching TV ![]() Glad to see you popped in for a visit. We are all watching the tax package with various degrees of trepidation. I am pretty sure, based on the current information available, that the federal income tax I will be paying will be greater than before the supposed "tax cut." We will have to see what the congressional conference committee decides. The proposed corporate tax cut to 21% from 39% sounds good for the corporations, but I have seen several surveys which seem to point in the direction of stock buybacks being the beneficiary of the reduced tax rate, rather than an increase in either research and development or better wages for the worker. The other big problem with the proposed tax package is the explosion in the deficit of 1.5 trillion (1.5x10^12) dollars. The Congressional Budget Office states that there is no way the economy will get better enough to eliminate the proposed deficit. In my opinion there have been too many special interest groups who want to have their piece of the pie no matter how much it adversely affects the country as a whole. This legislation has boondoggle written all over it. Just my opinion. I will get off my soapbox now. Cheers

Ou poi! Some Friday night fewer yesterday
---------------------------------------- Joe, sure sound like haven to me what you are writing about. With this I mean that my taxes has last decade went to Greece, Cyprus and ****... Do not mind to get them on their feet or some, but it just seems that has become new normal. Kind of same thing, if your taxes would be spread all over Americas, like Nicaragua, Honduras and Venezuela (which has more oil than Norway). Really do not mind IRS having 15% from me, at least I get fair change on your poker tables. If I borrow money for Finland, I need to pay 0,5% interest. If I borrow money for FED, I get 2,5% interest (that TLT on my portfolio) Hope you do not mind if I crunch here for a while.. *edited to appropriate forum language - ErikaT ![]() [Edit 3 times, last edit by ErikaT at Dec 18, 2017 12:18:59 PM] |
