Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Sounds like somebody did some good planning when they designed and insulated your building. I had a brother who was stationed in Fairbanks Alaska for a few years. He had some interesting stories about dealing with cold also. I think the coldest it got while he was there was about -55 to -60 F( about -49 to -52 C). Everybody had to plug in their vehicle or it would not start. Anything deisel they would leave running all the time and not tun off until the weather would warm to something reasonable. Anything that cold is hard on equipment.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

My router has given up the ghost tonight. I have a an old 802.11b router I have substituted but I am not going to align my range extender with it. I will have to bite the bullet and get an new one, probably an 802.11n in the morning. Rats !!
Cheers

With the new ones coming out soon, should be able to find a cheap 802.11n around. Newegg has some. Maybe find some on craigslist.

I had one of the good Linksys WRT54GS modem versions for 8 years, Sucker was rock solid. However, I gave it to my roommate when I moved out of the house. When I moved in with my g/f, we got a FAR Cisco/Linksys E900 router and a modem. We've had multiple problems with freeze-ups and and dropped wireless connections(which happen even while my crunchers are online through a wired connection).

From talking to friends online and reading, you might want to consider a ASUS N56U(Black Diamond) or N66U(Dark Knight) router.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I was bored so I bought a 7850 for $150. Does anyone know the correct filenames for UBUNTU so I can fix this app_info form my windows machine and get it working on my Linux machine? Do I need to make an other changes moving the app_info from windows to Linux.

This will be running on an AMD 1090 and I can probably run 6 GPU tasks on that. This should give the team another couple of hundred thousand points a day.

<app_info>
<app>
<name>hcc1</name>
<user_friendly_name>Help Conquer Cancer</user_friendly_name>
</app>
<file_info>
<name>wcg_hcc1_img_7.05_windows_intelx86__ati_hcc1 </name>
<executable/>
</file_info>

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

The long name is
wcg_hcc1_img_7.08_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu__ati_hcc1

and the version num is 708.

I would guess that platform, name, and file_name will have to change accordingly.

I haven't used an app_info. If you get yours working, would you post it? Thanks!

That is almost the same model I have (WRT54G ver. 3). It has had several years of flawless service, but its time had come. Thanks for the suggestion for a new one.

This app_info worked Under Ubuntu on an AMD-X6-1090t. I have 6 GPU tasks running on an ATI 7850. That should be worth another 200,000 ppd for the team!
