Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Everyone enjoying the snow? That wind is going to be a nightmare if those winds crank up as predicted.

As of this time I figure we got about 10 inches(25cm) with no wind to speak of so far. The snow has been fairly wet and heavy and is still snowing. It is still warm, about 30F(-1C) so the backside of the storm is not here yet. For me the best thing to do today is stay home and wait for the snow to end so I can deal with it.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Have plowed twice so far today. Don't want this to freeze as damp as the snow is. Lets hope this stays the rest of the season.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

My 6950 that was going on the blink is getting replaced with another one from sapphire (RMA).

Are there any significant differences between the various manufactures of GPU cards?

To some extent, yes. Have to read all the details and compare. Some push it to the extreme. My 7870 is an OC version. Higher speed than my 7950 but different technology. I see prices dropping so figure the 8000 series will be popping in the next few months. Looking for anything in particular? The 7700 series is probably the best bang for the buck. The 7900 series is a true double precision card.

Not looking for a card at the moment. I was thinking more along the lines of:
Is there a appreciable difference between Sapphire, XFS, PNY, etc.?

Build quality. Reputation. I always read the reviews to see if allot get RMA'd or allot of the same complaints. I almost went with ASUS GPU but after reading the reviews, to many complaints. You get what you pay for though.

I just bought this yesterday. I will let you know how it goes after a few hundred work units.

Nice card. Should produce some good points. Will be selling my 6950 once I get it in the mail and test it out. After seeing the specs of the 8000 series GPU's, will be grabbing one of them (hopefully the 8950).
