Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I got a knock on the door about 06:00 AM this morning. A motorist had hit a deer right at the end of my driveway. It was a small doe, probably second year, maybe 100 to 110 lbs (45 to 50 kg). He did not want it so I got it. I hung it up and called a friend to come over and field dress it. I then called the local PD so I could get a deer tag for it. Thank goodness it was cool this morning - 50F(10C) so the deer could cool down well. This evening we will skin and quarter it. Not something I really wanted to do but it is better than wasting it.

Cheers

I sure hope we have seen the last of the high dewpoints for the season. It can stay cool too. This weather is much better for crunching.

Probably not on a campfire, but in a skillet or the neighbor's grill.

I like venison, but my wife and children don't care for it all that much - more for me biggrin

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Nothing better then barbequed venison steaks and eggs for breakfast around the campfire.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Thank you, Sgt. Joe
I was afraid you Minnesota Crunchers would never notice ....
I promised we would be able to hunt, fish, pick berries, swat mosquitoes
and enjoy peace and quiet inbetween.
Hunting season - well, when we talk road kills I assume it's year round.
I tried that in Rhode Island - a deer was hit and couldn't move from our front yard
- we called the police who took care of putting it out of its misery.
I'll never forget even as it was dark - those sounds ....

Eggs? Did you find eggs, TLD?
Sunny side up, crispy at the edges, please tongue

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

We have lots of deer around here, including right in town. They get hit by cars all too often -- very bad news for the cars as well as the deer. Glad you can use the meat.
