Re: Minnesota Crunchers

On another note, lost one socket on my dually today. Still using the other until I RMA it later. Have to finish my climate wu's first. 12 threads gone for now. crying

Bummmmmmmer !

Yeah, really sucks. But lucky enough to have an identical board in my other cruncher that I'm debating on transplanting. That one has only one processor in use now so figure take a day to swap out. Just have to deal with the re register crap from Microsoft. Should have left things alone but core 10 was reading 10-15 degrees hotter than the rest. Figured I reapply thermal paste but saw a bent pin, flaps when moved. Tried reinstalling but wouldn't even post. My guess it wasn't making contact inside the socket. Makes crunching interesting. wink

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Made the swap this morning. Feels good to get the dually running again. biggrin . 50 bucks to replace one socket from super micro. Not bad but better than buying another board. Suckers are a bit pricey.

Happy to hear that worked out for you. Supermicro's are premium boards.

Cheers

Wish someone would make a stripped down dually board for crunchers. Can save a few bucks grabbing an open box board from the egg though. Kind of a gamble. Tried it once and ended up sending it back.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Am missing my board already. Down to around 72000 PPD whereas was doing around 110000 before crying . Super Micro should get it tomorrow (hopefully). Took close to 3 weeks the last time I sent a board in for repairs. Going to be a long drawn out couple weeks sad .

I have one of those. So far it has run flawlessly. I do not like Vista, but I say if it broke don't fix it. I got it as a present a while back when it was just about the cheapest quad a person could get. I hope it does well for you. BTW what OS is on it ?

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Well, I'm back on these boards again after leaving my machines in "set and forget" mode for a couple of weeks while my husband was in the hospital for bypass surgery. He's been home for a week now and is doing well -- still weak and tired but improving daily. I felt good knowing that while he was benefitting from medical science, my computers at home were making their little contribution.
