Re: Minnesota Crunchers

You will have no difficulty at all running separation units at 300MHz memory speed with no decrease in completion times. Your temps will stay lower too. My 5870 runs 24/7 at 900MHz GPU & 300MHz memory and completes two WU at a time in a little over two minutes.

How do I change mine to crunch 2 at a time? In the cc_config.xml file?

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

If I shut CCC off, it will run at 800mhz and the lowest setting on memory clock. If I enable CCC, I can down clock to 500mhz. Nothing lower. BTW, what is the power setting for? Can go -20 to 0 to +20. Am assuming power consumption. Correct? I add about 40 seconds crunching time when dropping CCC settings to there lowest settings using overdrive.

I don't use CCC. I use Trixx from Sapphire. I'm guessing it will work on other Radeon cards but I don't know for sure.

IMHO I would not recommend running 2 tasks at a time on Milkey Way. It really stresses the card. You'll get nearly as much work done doing them 1 at a time. You would have to create an app_info.xml file and drop it into the milkey way project folder to run 2 at a time. I don't know what exact parameters would be to do that on Milkey Way
FWIW I use an app_info to throttle my GPU to run at 70%. Way less heat and power consumption for 20 seconds longer run times.

Thanks for the info. Figured it would stress the card. I'll stick with one at a time. Am presuming using a simple text file to create app_info file. Could you tell me what exactly needs to be in that file? Am manually controlling my fan at 60% and still at 175 degrees on lowest settings. crying

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

My nVidia 460 is factory set to only go to 70%. I run that max all the time and my 470 I run at 80%. Both 24/7 at that speed. It keeps the cards between 60 and 75 C depending on how warm the basement is.

Running milkyway (as of today) and primegrid with the gpu's. Primegrid has now a boinc app for the gpu looking for world record primes. Takes my nVidia 470 8 days to crunch one unit. shock

this is my first time having my ranking under the 10,000 mark

That new crunching power has you moving on up.

Crunch on.

Unfortunately I don't know exactly what you would need to create one for running 2 tasks at a time. If you're looking for one to help you throttle back the GPU let me know and I'll give you the one I found on the MW website.

just for the throttle. might look at trixx too. If trix can make the same adjustments, might just use that. Does CCC have to be uninstalled to use trixx? Tnks for the help.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I'll post the file here when I get home from work. I don't know if you'll have to uninstall CCC to get trixx to work. I've never installed CCC or used it. Trixx is a basic overclocking tool but it can also be used to under clock everything except the voltage and it has auto and manual fan settings.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Installed trixx this morning. Didn't uninstall CCC. Thought it was working, fans adjusted when I moved the slider. Went real low but my temps were not dropping. Decided to open CCC just to check. GPU clock was still at 500, even though I set it to 250 in trixx. Am I supposed to save to bios when I adjust in trixx? Closed it for now and went back to CCC to crank up my fan to lower the temps. Might just run at night when it's cooler.
