Little heavy armada. Still need to fill empty socket to complete my Linux cruncher. Am hoping prices of westmere come down when the new xeons get released soon.
----------------------------------------Hexes are a bit pricey. The points are fun but crunching for cures is what matters. Your laptops are doing a fine job. Crunch on! ![]()

There has been discussion in other threads about the efficiency of the I5. On a price/output basis it is among the best cruncher available now. Also on an output/power used basis. Those westmere Xeons Bearcat has are real server workhorses also. I'll bet when he gets that second one installed we won't even see his dust.
---------------------------------------- Let's see what Ivy Bridge brings and at what price. Cheers

Thanks Sgt Joe. My main dually westmere system crunches pretty well at 2.93Ghz. Win7 keeps the turbo at 3.2Ghz constantly. The Linux cruncher is at 2.66 but ubuntu never kicks in turbo. Looked at presumed prices of the new xeons. Ouch. Pretty pricey for 8 core-16 thread chips. Way out of my price range. Will be keeping what I have for awhile.

Yes, that is the smell of GPU work units. They must be close. ![]() |

Do you smell that...? Yes, that is the smell of GPU work units. They must be close. ![]() Huh? You crunching with GPU? I looked at the 10 day forecast. Calling for 60's next week. I think spring is knocking at the door. Noticed yesterday my main PC was about 8 degrees warmer due to the warmer temps. Might have to research water cooling if temps get high this summer. ![]()

Might have to research water cooling if temps get high this summer. crying That would be the smell of springtime. Maybe you just need to crack a window or get a little (or a lot) more air movement through the machine. Your machine is really cranking. Being as spring is on our doorstep I see Swiftmallard has migrated away. Fly carefully and you are welcome to visit anytime. If GPU's are coming soon I may need to look at that aspect. I would have nothing in that area now. Cheers
