Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Yeah, figured that. Never tried the CLI. I rip movies periodically on ubuntu so like to pause while I rip. Will have to try ripping on my other machine I dual boot with win7 since adding my second processor. Should spank my dual quad.
Ever check the difference between GUI and CLI? If it's pretty big, might switch over on one machine.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

One of my P4 3.4ghz systems has bit the dust. I have gotten a replacement, a 2.66ghz Core2 Duo. I installed Mint 11 on an 8gb thumb drive and it is working. I did have to manually download the 32bit and 64bit lib files. We will see how long the thumb drive holds out. It only has about 500 mb left on the drive for BOINC to use, so I will have to figure out what packages to uninstall. The only thing it will be used for is to crunch. So far it rips through an HCC unit in about an hour and 5 minutes. The system cost $45 with no HD and the thumb drive cost less than $10. So I don't think that was too bad. I hope it works well for a while.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Pretty cheap. At least it's crunching. With my second hex installed, along with my dual quad, getting a little over 100000 ppd. Clean energy is lagging on my Linux box. Around 20 minute difference CPU vs actual time. Seems it likes to crunch all 10 I do a day at the same time. Am crunching climate prediction too so my disk is taking a beating. 8 more days of clean energy to get sapphire then 100% HCC until that's completed. Just hope the hard drive doesn't crash.

They had the great Halloween blizzard of 1991 all over the papers today. That was memorable. And just a few days (5?) after the Twins won the World Series. smile

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

No snöy here crying

Last month was three degree above normal climate, so more like early spring here.....

Yes I do mind, would be joy&fun to have some blizzard.

Edit: I pay for maintenance company to do my snow works, so I really do not mind if there would be mile or two tongue

If the maintenance company is being paid by the job I would guess they would like to see a lot of snow also. tongue

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Just had a pickup drive through the neighborhood taking out mail boxes.
The police are still up and down the street taking pictures. I'm glad this did not happen last night, could have been deadly.
I got to believe that truck has a lot of damage on it after walking down my street. What a mess! frustrated
