Some computer stuff... Notice that fast Internet connection and SSD drive is not best possible combination. Have 128GB on this baby and if I download something, it get something around 3MB/s and hold PC get stuck. Quite impossible to do anything else... Quite crappy... ![]() Make sure you have the latest firmware on it. That made a huge difference for me. |

Thnks Brink,
----------------------------------------I think I found something, I got: Drive Model: SAMSUNG SSD PM800 TM 128GB / VBM24D1Q It should support TRIM, but I have XP and I think it was bottle neck. I found this Forcetrim, run it and something seems to be different. Downloading now seven files, watching movie and no lagging at all. It seems to me that I cannot write any faster to SSD, total traffic seems to be limited to same, no matter do I download one or seven files at time. But heck, no lagging at all ![]() ![]() |

You folks with ssd drives putting boinc on it too or just the OS then put boinc on a regular drive? Been considering doing it for just the OS.

I have three laptops at home, one with SSD and two with traditional, so quite linear stuff for me. Everything goes to SSD or trad.
----------------------------------------Paradoxically have Vista and Win7 on trad. HDD I think I will use this one with XP as long as MS offers security updates. ![]() |

It seems as if I have posted in almost every team thread this morning
- so I better contaminate yours as well You are keeping different hours from you Minnesota team mates, ultima Thule. I think I read some point posts from you indicating you come from Finland. Is that true? If so, what might be your ties to Minnesota? - not that everybody would not like to associate with the Minnesota Crunchers - they are a bright bunch of crunchers helloooo Sgt. Joe!! |

Jup, I'm from Finland.
----------------------------------------Apropoo, I think it is possible to grow oregano on hydroponics... Noticed that tab water here is quite high on ph, around eight. Bought some phosphoric acid, it comes on very handy 1kg (2,2 pound) packets and get some progress... Now waiting polices to raid my apartment as potential bomb lab ![]() Well some photos about my new unit. Actually I'm quite happy that oregano seems to be so hard to grow, this hold stuff works on very same interface as bonsai trees have tendency to do.. Looking more for challenge than result. Glass on left works as nice gauzing rod. There is one oasis cube germinate and those on plate are all rock wool. Idea is to move to those bigger cubes after tiny ones are occupied by roots. This time I choose stronger tasting version ( Origanum vulgare hirtum), hopefully it is hard to grow as milder ones.. Did actually manage kill most of those, I just notice that those cannot get practically any nutrients from water with too high ph -value. So end up some overdose of nitrogen. Bigger cubes are on very simply NFT -system with little over five gallon tank, so it should get a long itself for cuople of weeks if I need to do some traveling.. Lamps are very standard CFL's. Using 2800K on another one and some very much colder on another. ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by ultimaThule at Oct 23, 2011 11:10:12 AM] |

I had heard of this technique of NFT but had never given it much thought. It looks interesting for a small scale system. I know in Minnesota there are some commercial hydroponic tomato farms which waste heat and water from a nuclear plant are used, but I do not know what technique they use. Cheers

You folks with ssd drives putting boinc on it too or just the OS then put boinc on a regular drive? Been considering doing it for just the OS. One ssd drive for everything. Although on some systems I put a large cheap spindle drive in as a storage drive. Now I'm off to go birding. Cheers. |

Starting to wonder if putting boinc on another drive would perform better. Similar to a scratch drive when video editing, boinc can crunch freely while the OS reads/writes on it's own. May have to experiment once I finish getting my blue badge on Clean energy. About 30 days left.
