Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Do you use bayonet there?

Bayonets are only used for specialty bulbs as far as I know. Normal bulbs are E26, both incandescent and CFL. LED bulbs also come in E26 but are very expensive so far. I have bought a couple of the 20 watt equivalent LED bulbs for my porch lights and a chicken shed. I just leave them on all the time. They only draw about 1.5 watts. They cost me $8.00 apiece, but have been burning continuously for over 2 years. They do not throw enough light to read by, but plenty of light to get by for other tasks and chores.

My yard light is a 200 watt HPS(High pressure Sodium). It has a photocell so it comes on at night. It is an E39. It is much brighter than the 200 watt mercury vapor lamp it replaced.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Had a power outage today, about 2 hours. Turns out the workmen on the high voltage construction just to the south of me dropped something on the local distribution lines and shorted things out for a bit. One of the line fuses just to the north of me burned out. One of my crunchers burned out a fan so I will need to replace that, otherwise everything else came back normally.

Cheers

Condolences for your lost...
I lost my suitcase on airport some time ago, still hurting..
Most people think that Finland does not have space program, but that ain't fact.
If you put your suitcase any of local bombers, your luggage never return to earth...

About led's,
I bought one of these ( 2W model ) and have to admit that it gives enough light (90 Lm) to read next to it on couple of yards radius.
I pursosely broke outer class so propably get something like 100 Lm out of it.

After my ESL's run out, I will replace all of those with leds..
Those looks something like hounder time better than ESL's, I took this with my crappy Android but should deliver idea.

Apropoo,
notice that my new blue light lures lot small birds.
Those seems to understand spaces as different areas, so not hitting windows or anything.
Well those eventually lures falcons, try to get you Brink some nice pics about local falcon pies.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Hello fellows...

Some hobby stuff.
I bought couple of miniature hydroponic systems and put oregano on those...
Notice that it does not have tendency to explode to hands or anything on water farming...

Well getting some results, when looking another farms on Youtube, have to say that oregano just does not seems to grow on water, seems to need soil..
But not going to stop now...

This has grow something like one month, system is dripper, so roots are on tiny oasis stuff, it should work lot better than rock wool or anything.
Set timer to drip 15 min every hour, so actually some combination between ebb&flow and dripper.

There is 20W CFL on above, so should get enough light...
Nope, window is not dirty, it is lens of Android tongue

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Nice view out the window. I like the woods.

Some local news. Verso Paper is laying off workers, probably about 175 or so. They have 3 paper machines in the plant, 1 modern and two which are about 100 years old. The old ones are for supercalendared paper, the kind used in advertising inserts. They say they are now too inefficient to be profitable. the plant is in Sartell, MN, a suburb of St. Cloud. The plant has gone through a number of owners in recent years, St. Regis, Champion, International Paper and now Verso. They were saying the demand for the kind of paper produced there is dropping about 3% per year. It is sad to see good jobs go away. Makes me thankful for mine.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Surprised the paper mill had equipment that old. Talk about milking every cent out of that machine. Sad to see this happen but companies need to invest in better technology if they want to stay ahead.
