Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Nope, went back to office...

Good part is that I found nine idle CPU, should be able to loot new sapphire patch in few weeks...

If this depression does not kill my company, maybe electricity bill will...

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Apropoo,

did get very nice solid price for electricity for two years...

Last winter was quite devastating to local energy companies, because they did have mostly static price for year...
They sold something like a few cent per kilowatt, but on some months market price went over €uro per kilowatt...
Price of electricity went so high that bigger factories with own power plants, actually stop producing what ever they were producing and just sold electricity to main grid because it was so much better business..

So all companies has feverishly change old fashion meters to real time high tech gadgets so they can charge per day -sketch..
And there has been a lot talk about that nobody will not get anymore these kind of year with same price deals...
Those companies are driving hardly to put market risk for consumers.....

Well, I cannot change grid owner next to my condo... I have to pay öbaut 7 cent ( 0,1 USD) as transfer fee per kilowatt.
But I can surely change juice seller....
Swedish dudes offered me 6,4 cent (0,09 USD) per kilowatt with static price for next two year...

Could not remember my current price so I call to my own company, lady on another end somehow did have very good clue why I do made such questions, so they drop my juice price from 7,4 cent to 6,8 and promise to keep it there for next two year tongue
Only down side is that it is 100% produced by water energy, so I'm practically hippie.

Wish I could call my electric supplier and "negotiate" a cheaper rate. All in all though I think the rate is pretty low, but I would have to check to be sure. I value the dependability of service more than other factors and my dependability is very good.

I remember someplace I read I could pay slightly more and get green electricity, but the power company has not pushed it. I think they are waiting until the new power line is completed so they can get the electricity from western Minnesota wind farms to the eastern parts more efficiently.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Cold and mist here....
Older I get, more I like this tongue

Some economic stuff for while.
Seems to me that forest cluster will be back bone of Thule again, there is some very intresting yield on bond prices..

Here is two somehow equal bonds öbaut credit rating, maturnity, jaadijaadijaa...
Metso is paper -company.
Nokia some ITC -company.

Last figure is how much bond is yielding on current price.
So Metso's 7,25% had turn 2,08%
While Nokias 5,5% yields 2,97%

In praxis this means that there is a lot buyers for Metso's paper -> price go up -> you need to pay more to get same piece of bond -> intrest is solid so you need to pay more money to get same interest -> yield goes down.

Poi did that Canadian dude sink one company quite well.
Nokia is literary junk bond now a days.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Oh piffle. (Just checking whether you guys have heard that particular expression before...)

Anyway, our Internet connection went down today, and when I got home, that had wreaked havoc with my crunching machines -- a bunch of error WUs on one, and a couple had run dry. Oh well, hardly the end of the world, much better than a fried machine.

But I wish BOINC could be fixed so loss of Internet connection can't mess up WUs. I guess I should keep a bigger cache and limit when my crunchers try to connect. We don't have a lot of ISP problems, but they're not really rare.
