Yeah, am drooling too. Been using harpertown for a good while till I scored on a pair of westmere for about half price. Unless I can sell my harpertown crunchers, I won't be upgrading anytime soon. What's real cool is the new motherboards with UEFI making it real easy to overclock. Turn one setting and rest adjusts automatically. How cool is that! Still want another dual socket board though.
I put my 8 core on St cloud craigslist under 8 core PC if anyone is interested.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

That is a good point. It is a Dell 8100 with a HD 5770 1 GB GDDR5 and only a 350 watt power supply. yikes. I may have to sneak in a bigger PS, if I can.

I installed an HD 5870 card and upgraded the PSU from the original 350W to a 600W

biggrin
What brand, may I ask?

OCZ, I've heard these aren't what they used to be but I got it for free. cool

Omigosh, you guys are awesome!!

I hope it's ok that I joined your team on PrimeGrid a couple weeks ago when Brinktastee invited folks who were running GPU projects to join. Neither of the Iowa-based teams that I'm on in my other projects has any members on PrimeGrid. And I learn so much from reading your team thread here on WCG that I wanted to join you in something!

Kate (the transplanted Duluthian)

P.S. I don't even have to be homesick for Duluth today -- we have -25 degree windchills right here in Iowa! tongue

The more the merrier! hugs

Dang it was cold today. The AirLake airport in Apple Valley was -29F this morning. Have not seen those types of temps since the early 80's.
Back then we had an Insulation Company and our 2 ton truck was a Mercedes and our tank were full of #2 diesel . 50 gallons of jelly. Could not get that thing to run. Finally we drained the whole system and changed all the filters and ran straight #1 diesel. Working outside on a truck with fuel everywhere...that was cold cold cold. I will never forget that winter.
