Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Know anyone running this with 8 cores? Was peeking on the forums to see if any problems exist with the 64 bit edition. Might just give it a whirl to see what happens when I get a chance.

I have some time on a linux blade at work with dual Xeon i7s so that's 8 cores with HT which show as 16 cores to the OS. Seems to crunch just fine. Client is boinc_6.2.15_i686-pc-linux-gnu.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Thanks for the info. Was that the 32 bit or 64 bit version running on the blade?

No idea honestly. The install file I used it called "boinc_6.2.15_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh". None of the WCG projects needs anywhere near 4GB of RAM so 64bit is a bit pointless at the moment. The blade does have 48GB of RAM though... :D

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I was refering to mint linux. I have the 64 bit version of boinc running on my mac and runs flawlessly. Hope the same goes with linux when I get time to install it.

Not sure how you are counting 8 cores but I have 8 tasks running with hyperthreading on the following:

I7 975 Windows 7 Enterprise, 64 Bit
I7 965 Windows Vista Ultimate, 64 Bit
I7 920 Ubuntu 9.04, 64 Bit

All are working fine, and scoring a lot of points for the team!!! :)

Is that a server ? What kind of rig is that if it is not a server ? Do you need a server OS to recognize the Xeons ? Just curious.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Running win 7 rc1 64 bit on it. Not a server but could be. Used a dual socket asus mobo. Built it strictly for crunching. The case was overkill but the dual socket mobo's require large cases. The xeon's are 2.5ghz. Wanted the 3.2 ghz ones but the wattage on those suck serious juice. Definately won't buy winbloze when it expires so will download linux mint and give it a try.
