Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Run an HTTP proxy on your home computer and address it by IP. The traffic would look like any other HTTP (web) traffic. Unless they use a huge whitelist and block everything else, this should work.

Can you have static IP there free of charge? There is would cost few €uros on month..
Just wondering that it's quite annoying if you need to configure all servers time to time 8D

Apropoo,
I'm having 3G (wireless. like cellular), it cost me ten €uros on month. There is not any quota for data transfer and it gives 1,8Mbps down, on praxis half of that will implement.
Fast enough for surfing on Internet and reading mails, etc...

When I need _really_ broad band, then I simply take remote connection to my lap top on office and then I can have 54Mbps down and _up_ dia my 3G connection.

I can leave early home from my office, no one know biggrin

Just get a free dynamic hostname from dtdns.com, configure that to point to your home machine IP running the proxy, then point all the WCG installations to your hostname.
My cable modem pretty much NEVER changes IP unless I power cycle it, so for me I only have to update my dtdns.com hostname once or twice per year.

That was good. I am not sure it was necessarily a good idea, but it sure looked like fun. Moose did not even look like it minded much. Dangerous animal on land and in the rut.

We in this area are too far south for moose range. Need to go about 150 miles (200km) north. Have brother up in moose country. He works on a rescue squad. He has been to a few moose/car collisions. Moose are so big that when they fall on the car after being hit they crush the car. Usually fatal for all involved.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Jup

size of moose is what makes it so funny.
It is quite impossible to understand how big animal it actually is, until you meet one face to face.. So it takes real lot guts to jump to back of moose.
It is not something like horse, it is more like circus elephant...

Apropoo,

we have funny law from year 1600 and something, that actually prohibit riding on moose and also keeping moose as pet.

Local hooligans did use moose as mount.
Reason to do so was simply that horses are afraid of moose's, so local sheriff did end up heading very rapidly to another direction.
Also because moose has cloven hoof, it can go places were even man cannot go, like swamps...
So even with most fearless horses, nobody could not track those moosebandits.

So actually moose was ultimate mount on middle age.
But it is impossible to make then march on formation, so military did not adopt moose.

Moose live in the swamps. They are certainly built for it. I just don't know how they stand the mosquitos. Maybe that is why they stay in the water so much, besides the fact they eat all that aquatic stuff. smile

Most famous moose from Minnesota is Bullwinkle from Frostbite Falls. He is a graduate of Whatsamatta U.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I think mosquito cannot penetrate moose's furs. It is simply too hard, it is brush like and furs are quite long.
I'm quite sure that mosquito simply cannot literally dig it self throug such barrier.

But well, there is one bundle of joy, we called it moosefly (Lipoptena cervi).

It seems to me that it is not known on your region, so please let me tell what piece of joy it is.
Usually it look moose to bite, but human seems go also so very well.
It simply dig it's way through hair and drop it wings to make sure that there is not any hurry to get off.
It is not so simply to get rid of them as going for hot sauna for hour and wash your head with tall oil soap. They do not seems to mind at all.
Only way to get rid of them for sure is shave your head.

What a joy it is wake on middle of night when these black spiders are crawling out of your head.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

We do not have this moose fly here in Minnesota so far. But we do have deer flies.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deer_fly

I have been bitten by these and they are painful. On me the bite will cause quite a swelling. I have been bitten on the knuckle and it swelled to twice its normal size. Itched for about a week. They are nasty little devils.

Cheers
