Re: Adding photos

Fred, I've never used Photobucket or similar service. I guess they are okay and no problems, but if you ever decide that you need an alternative, I think most ISPs provide a webpage as part of the Internet subscription.

Thanks, Bill. I have a couple of GMAIL accounts, so I looked at their photo sharing option (a relatively new addition to the service, I guess), and it has 1 GB available space, and uses Picasa as the local interface. So I signed up for it, it's a bit complex the first time through due to poor documentation, but seems to work OK from then on.

If any team member would like a free GMAIL account, please email me (you can do that from the team homepage) and I will send you an invitation. Any GMAIL user can have the 1G free photo space.

As far as photo editing software, I would like to recommend Corel Paint Shop Pro (version 12 now, I guess, though the older versions do a fine job for basic editing). It does a lot of what Photoshop does, but for a lot less $$.

Regarding brewing, yesterday I picked up 200 pounds of malt from my LHBS as part of a bulk order. Paid $40.00/50 pound bag of milled 2-row pale (Cargill) which included shipping. Now I'm a very happy brewer...

I imagine you are, that's an excellent price. Now that it's finally thinking about cooling off here (yesterday was the first daytime high below 80, though it won't last long, it'll be 86 again by Sunday) I will be back into the brew mode myself. I'll probably just make a cider to start, though.

Anyway, here is an attempt at a photo upload (hold breath...) Mountains are the central Andes in Chile near the Argentine border

Cheers

Also managed to get a pound of Chinook pellets for $16.00, but I haven't repackaged them yet. As for temps, it has been above average here, too, but is finally getting cooler; but I brew year around, including in mid-summer, though not as much.

I don't know what happened to the photo-link in your post; I noticed the actual link when I started to quote your post, and was able to cut and paste it into my browser, so the problem must be on the WCG forum end of things. Very nice pic of the Andes from a plane, but a bit misty.

Cheers.

Yeah, I tried to get them to stop a minute so I could get out and wash the window on the plane, but they refused...Something about a "schedule"... I will try posting more to that site, I have some decent pics, I was just hoping they would actually come through on the WCG side. Odd that they haven't.

Anyway, I am keeping brewing low key because as you know I mostly brew ciders and meads, and they like quite cold temps for best results.

Cheers

PS More more computer online today, a Core2 Duo 1.8. This weekend was a bad one for points for me, I see that one of the computers here at work is hung for some reason, so I'm going to reboot it today.

That core2 quad machine was almost online last week, but the motherboard (Intel DG31PR) doesn't support RAID - I appear to have bought the wrong one - so it's getting an RMA and I am buying the right one today. Always something...

Look who is talking wink ... and I'm glad to see that you came back to WCG, Adyweb. I hadn't been checking the Chat forum lately and when I finally did, you had already left and then returned. Glad to see that you didn't leave for good. Anyway, thanks for dropping by for a visit.

I did a three-batch partigyle yesterday and last night. No particular recipe or style; I guess the first runnings could be either an ESB or IPA [edit: actually probably closer to a light barleywine], the second a regular pale ale, and the last a light ale. Used 27 1/2 pounds of grain, and it was quite manageable in my 48 quart rectangular mashtun -- but I probably wouldn't really want to add much more grain or I'd need to cut back on strike water or have a hard time stirring. I think 30 pounds of grain would probably be the absolute limit. As it was, I actually did my dough-in with 15 pounds of grist, all of the strike water, mixed well, and then I added the rest of the grain and mixed again. That way I was able to mix the grist on the bottom very easily and not have to worry about any dough balls. I don't think I really lost that much heat doing it that way.

EDIT: Forgot to add that our team will be passed tonight by the "MyChat@Taiwan" team, dropping us to #85. On the other hand, I had a look ahead and see that while there are three more teams which could pass us before the end of the year, I think there are a couple of teams that we could catch by then to even it out a bit. At any rate, I think we will end the year still in the top half-percent and definitely in the Top 100. Our team's birthday is in two more days when we will be two years old. cool

Cheers.

Hi Ady! Howzitgoin?

I was gone for a while, busy away from the world as we know it (and that has its attractions now that I'm back in the midst of it, let me tell you).

I was wondering, did you do anything in particular to get your sig line working? I tried both DCstats and BoincSynergy, and they're both shorting me by about 10 million points (the same number on both, oddly). My old stats line quit working some time back.

Hi, Akela. Used one of my beer brewing kettles ... (it's actually a 'turkey fryer' anyway) ... to fry a Cajun turkey yesterday. Just carved it up and it is great; now waiting on the one from the oven to 'set' so that I can carve it before our guests arrive.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE ... both brewers and those who have not yet seen the light. biggrin

Our closest competitors!

Here is a link to a page to easily watch our closet competitors. We are slowly gaining on IBM South Africa; the rest of the teams are rapidly gaining on us. There are a few other teams that are also gaining on us, but they are not gaining as fast and don't need to be watched as of yet: http://tinyurl.com/39wcjq

EDIT: Here is a screen that replaces IBM South Africa with Michigan Tech, which is far behind but gaining VERY fast -- consistently crunching over 400,000 points per day: http://tinyurl.com/2fhwdm

EDIT: Here is a screen that shows the few teams that we are gaining on, although with the lead that some of them have, it will probably be years before we can catch them: http://tinyurl.com/ypbocs

Cheers.
