Re: Newest version of BOINC

Greetings to everyone. Are any of you brewers planning to enter the Sam Adam's contest? I just brewed a new batch of Russian Imperial Stout and took extreme care to do 'everything just right' and if it turns out as well as the last one, I'll probably submit it. I might brew a couple of other entries, too.

Cheers.

Getting ready to plant some hops

Things sure have gotten quite on our team thread lately. I've been getting my garden ready, including a row that I'm going to plant some hops in. Am really looking forward to trying some fresh hops in my brewing.

Cheers.

A garden? Outside? Forgive my ignorance, but when I look outside my window and I see almost 2 feet of snow laughing . Are you all that thawed out in Arkansas ?

That's my patio.

It goes without saying, that no self respecting 'committed' beer drinking couch potato should have one of these: The Beer Launching Fridge

Bill,

I was aware of the contest, but my Meads have been doing better (and sometimes much better) than my Beers in recent contests. I think I have some bugs to work out in either my temperature measurement accuracy during mashing or my Mash-out process to get rid of the "astringency" that I keep getting comments about from the judges. I also get occasional sanitation comments, but if I can make a good Mead I don't think I have a sanitation problem since they are much more sensitive to sanitation.

I agree with Brink on the garden planning! I had just as much snow on my deck as his picture and we even had enough to go snowshoeing in the open space next door on Saturday with the kids for the first time in about 5 years.

Moving on...

It’s been a lot of fun being in the Homebrewers group but it’s time for me to move on. I’m going to go help my friends in the Minnesota Crunchers group. I sit in a cube next to most of the members of that group and I’m giving into the peer pressure. hypnotized
Don’t be too angry with me. praying

Thanks for the help, Brink

No one should get angry at all. You've been a tremendous help, and while I'm sorry to see you leave us, at least you will still be crunching, which is all that really matters.

Anyway, I've been so busy that I haven't had the time to reply to recent posts, which isn't much incentive for people to remain on the team, either. So even though you are leaving, Brink, I hope you'll finally see my reply to your post about weather here in Arkansas. For about ten days now it has been in the 70's, and my thermometer showed it at 84 in the shade on Monday. I never checked it yesterday, but it was real warm, too. I've planted peas, sugar snap peas, and potatoes.

Dave, I don't know if mead can be entered in the Sam Adam's contest, so you will need to check that if interested.

Cheers.

Thanks Bill,
The snow is almost gone now here in the Twin Cities after a couple of odd 60 degrees days.

Good luck on the Sam Adams contest. I may try and brew my own beer this summer. You all here got me scratching my head and wondering if I could make something good to drink.

Hey Fred B, I’m headed to Bristol next week. I’m a season ticket holder of 3 seats. If you’re ever interested in going sometime, let me know. I usually don’t go to both races.

Happy Crunching biggrin

Hello all I'm new to the team and a mad brewer to boot!I would sugest that for a first brew you go the kit and kilo road to learn the basics of brewing and move on from there .My favourite brew at the moment is to get a stout kit add 500g dark malt and 20 grams saaz boiled for 20 min lob the lot in the ferenter wait 2 weeks and bottle then wait 6 months for it to mature.
This makes a lovely dark ale that is the staple brew for a good barbie!
On the subject of food I have a heap of good recipies for anybody who wants them..strange that seeing as i'm a chef by trade
