Inconclusive means that BOINC attempted validation on the workunit but it could not agree on a consensus for which result was the correct result. This is a 'in progress' state that means that the workunit is going to be sent out to more computers in order to reach a consensus.
----------------------------------------For example - if there are 3 results returned for a workunit and 2 of them agree and one is different then all three will be marked as inconclusive and the workunit will be sent out to a fourth computer. When that fourth computer returns the result then validation will be attempted again. If that fourth result matches the 2 results that previously agreed then the those three results will be marked as valid and the result that didn't agree will be marked as invalid. Inconclusive means that the workunit is still in progress. It just gives you information about why it is still in progress even though three results have been returned. We are investigating the errors and should have news to report soon. Kevin [Edit 1 times, last edit by knreed at Jun 27, 2006 2:00:13 PM] |

Thanks for reminding us about what Inconclusive means Kevin, and good luck investigating the reasons
---------------------------------------- Although I have had a few results with these come up as inconclusive, for the first time now I have had two of these new HPF2 units crash out on me completely before completion losing 8 hours of work: <core_client_version>5.5.0</core_client_version> <message> The environment is incorrect. (0xa) - exit code 10 (0xa) </message> <stderr_txt> Failed to open wcg_checkpoint.dat for reading. rc: 2. File doesn't exist? Failed to open wcg_hpf2.random for reading. rc: 2. File doesn't exist? Adywebb,
----------------------------------------knreed reports here that they have recognised those 2 errors plus another and are almost ready to put out a fix. It won't be long and we'll be crunching pretty much error free again. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 27, 2006 4:22:40 PM] |

You are too kind
My excuse is that it was hidden away within a post in the UD Agent section, and I was looking at Boinc - perhaps it should have been given more general prominence, possibly within this section as it has direct relevance to this project. However it doesn't excuse my poor use of the search facility ![]() |

There was little i liked at the UD.Grid forum, but the 'sticky' messages, that always stay at the top of the section threads list was a good one.

Only my second ZAxxxx HPF2 'completed' today after a hard 6 hours CPU time crunch.......Inconclusive. The actual log file, when hitting the link 'inconclusive' in the Result Detail showed only 3 lines stating that certain files could not be opened and concludes then to give a Zero return code, which is normal for all 'completed' returns. This log file normally lists the result of each subchunk which from the counters in BOINC were 4.0761%.......100% does not devide by that number, i know!
----------------------------------------The water has broken, the heavy labour has started waiting on number 4 to crunch the same WU.....see what the midwife comes up with......have suspended all HPF2 WU's in my BOINC queue....De-Mounteed the HPF2 Hoss, since i dont see point in continuing until knreed distributes the fixes he announced earlier on the 27th. Till then, FAAH is for me the lone ride to fight another 'qualified' menace to humanity. BTW, what is HPF2's real target.....seeing some news articles where malaria pops out.....now that is another grand menace....taking larium or malerone (no african can afford) is not a sustainable, preventative medication....and i know!

That's OK Sek. L and I and the boys will rassle this one down. Best you stand off and watch, don't need you breaking a nail or mussing up yer hair. In the meantime watch and learn how it's done so you'll be ready when the easy ones come along
I have 17 za* HPF2 validated, some required 5 crunches, most validated with the standard 3. I have another 16 either in progress, pending, inconclusive or errored. No problem fer this cowboy. |
