Their songs are sometimes a little bit too weird for my taste but this one is quite nice. smile

Re: Anime Addicts Against AIDS

Here's a relevant article: http://joemygod.blogspot.com/2007/10/new-aids-timeline-revealed.html

Also, new anime club developments:
Shu-chan and I were officially asked by our local club if we would put on another chibi convention. So, we have begun research on how to vastly improve on this year's chibicon. We have a very large and fast growing list of people we need to talk to and things we need to do, however, if anyone has any websites or suggestions on putting together a more conventional anime convention, please share!

The convention we put together this past August was a quick two month planned club event. It was a one room deal with gaming stations, anime, cosplay, fan hosted panels, music, and a dealers area. We had about 30 of our then 40 members and friends show up.

In August of '08 we hope to make it a more locally publicized event. It would be nice to hit the 100/200 attendance mark, but we're not unrealistic. We'd like to have it in a multi conference room facility (most anime cons are at hotels with these types of accommodations), but we've also been invited back to the '07 location for free. The problem is, if we go back to the single large hall we won't be able to expand very much. But, it's free and we have no monies.

Anyway, like I said, if any of you have any suggestions, links, anything we may find helpful, please share them : )

Thanks! Keep up the good work!

Re: Anime Addicts Against AIDS

garooob man you are crunching crazy numbers! over 2.5 million points generated and nearing your three year run time mark? that's insane!

so here's an update on JAMMCon08. we've got the site up and running:
http://www.redhorizonrising.com/JAMMCon08

we've got most of the major info up i think and we've got a forum now (slow and small as it may be as i imagine all baby forums are) and we're hoping next week to send out sponsor packets to local businesses. *wishes for money* the week after sponsor packets go out we're going to start going around and attempting to plaster the city with posters and fliers. i realize it's WAY a head of time, but i want to get the word out and get people visiting the site and joining the forums. once we establish a rock solid interest group, word of mouth will help us out a ton.

oh! and we have shirts!

anyway, the whole point of the post was to let my fellow anime fans know that the convention tree is sprouting a new shoot and ask you all for- *snap* i forgot to add a wcg page! *adds that to the to do list*

um yeah, so any advice, thoughts, comments, recommendations, anything, would be much appreciated.

i have a growing list of anime to screen that people want to see, but if any of you know of any really really new stuff that people don't really know about yet, that would be spanky.

- oop, duty calls. later guys! keep crunchin'!

Re: Anime Addicts Against AIDS

I was going to brag about that but I've been occupied by moving between two apartments for the last month or so. But yes, that's the power of two, dual-core processors going 100%, 24/7 (almost). I'm still thinking about that quad-core...
Wow, putting on a con? That must be a major undertaking. And Port Huron, that's up by Detroit. I was just visiting friends from college in Marshall the other weekend and boy was that a drive. I kind of wish we could go to that, but we're looking at around a 12-hour drive and the wife and I aren't really up to that. I know it's not really close, but I hear Ann Arbor has a fair-sized anime fan base. Maybe you can drum up some support at the University of Michigan.

Re: Anime Addicts Against AIDS

I actually 'like' moving. Everyone thinks I'm crazy. But, man, a month of it? I think that would make me kind of nutters... And married now! I totally forgot you were engaged when you first joined and recall you mentioning "wife" before, but I've never asked: when did it become official?!

Well we're still pretty little. Not quite on the scale of the larger conventions. We're crossing our fingers for 100-200 people. I'd be insanely pleased with numbers like those. Since there's only two of us doing all the planning we kind of want to take our time building a fan base, get some capitol, maybe move to a bigger location in town next year if we get a good turn out and good feedback.

I've just started reaching out to anime clubs that are in our area of the thumb, mayhap spread the word a bit, get some support. We're also getting ready to send out sponsor packets to local businesses hoping for handouts ; )

Actually, there's Youmacon (http://www.youmacon.com/) if you're looking for a larger convention that's closer to you. They're actually moving to Dearborn from what I understand. The last three years they've been in Troy and they grew so big in those three years that they have to move to a bigger convention space! It's a pretty awesome convention.

If you want to look for other conventions that are closer still there's cosplay.com and animecons.com. Both of them have convention schedules, but not always the same ones listed.

Re: Anime Addicts Against AIDS

Well, I finally got around to it. I've done my team leader duty and put a section on our convention website about the WCG and AAAA with links to both. Here's hoping it drums up some more crunchers for the cause!

Re: Anime Addicts Against AIDS

We got married on June 23, 2007. The reason it's taken us so long to move is because we have the time. We moved out of the old place with about 5-6 weeks left on the lease because it was such a dump. My wife kept getting bit by bugs, we had drug dealers for neighbors, squirrels lived in the walls, etc. So I've gradually been filling up the Accord with boxes and driving them the 2 miles down the road to the new place. The lease is up on Dec. 9, but now I've got all our stuff out and I just have to clean it.
That other convention is closer, but not by much. See, we actually live down near St. Louis. My wife says that there's a convention there about every other year, so we'll probably go to that when it comes around again.
