Thank you for all the posts with information. It is nice to see progress. Some WUs going well and getting validated, and others with errors (this is what testing is for).
----------------------------------------I'm having a bit of FOMO as I didn't get any of the stress testing WUs, I'll finish up the few WUs of the backup project, in hope of getting some WCG WUs soon. Hopefully with the increase in communication and eventually a new status page, we won't have to crowdsource this information. I'll have to start playing one of the games on the forum, as I do enjoy seeing you all post. edit: no more FOMO. I got some testing MCM WUs [Edit 1 times, last edit by Unixchick at Oct 21, 2025 7:33:12 PM] |

New test batch coming in now. The tasks seems to have more normal crunch times.

Regarding validating without credit...
I wonder if they are running all six (?) validators yet (which might explain why only 17 of my 1400+ returned results so far have validated!) and, if so, whether the way they've tried to integrate validation and assimilation is causing a delay (in classic BOINC, credit is assigned by the validator wrapper as part of finishing off for a specific WU) I seem to have got credit for two short tasks and 6 long tasks (and the long task credits look about right...); however, I notice that the claimed credit for any tasks that haven't got granted credit yet sometimes show 202.5 claimed and on other occasions show a claim that is much closer to what I'd expect for the amount of CPU time used! It also seems that there are a lot of tasks with one returned result flagged Valid whilst the other is still flagged Pending Validation (as noted earlier by Adri) -- that might just be a feature of their new method, but then again... So (as noted by Ralf) there are probably still issues to be resolved; it also remains to be seen whether the ones with credit have actually been assimilated as well... Insights from others welcome, of course :-) Cheers - Al. P.S. It comes as no surprise that the new validation mechanism doesn't seem to be doing anything with non-MCM1_9xxxxxx workunits. I do hope that is a feature of their testing, not an indication of a [future] problem... |

Suspect this may be an characteristic of windows processing rather than linux as you have indicated. If a WU has returned an invalid or error, that will show as shown in the third example below: Before Move showing errored out WU's: Selected - PENDING VALIDATION: MCM1_0240904_5823 Project name: Mapping Cancer Markers Created: Aug. 23, 2025 - 06:31 UTC Name: MCM1_0240904_5823 Minimum Quorum: 2 Replication: 2 MCM1_0240904_5823_0 Microsoft Windows 10 Core x64 Edition, (10.00.19045.00) Error 2025-08-23 07:25:24 UTC 2025-08-29 07:26:25 UTC MCM1_0240904_5823_1 Microsoft Windows 10 Professional x64 Edition, (10.00.19041.00) Pending Validation 2025-08-23 07:25:41 UTC 2025-08-27 10:09:03 UTC 1.4 / 1.49 90 / 0 MCM1_0240904_5823_2 Microsoft Windows 11 Core x64 Edition, (10.00.26100.00) Pending Validation 2025-08-29 07:25:34 UTC 2025-10-08 00:25:10 UTC 2.26 / 2.29 81.1 / 0 I did a cursory search through my current 3690 MCM WU's for any VALID results - I was unable to locate any among those I looked at. Further, I show approximately 39217 VALID WU's. Additional Notes:
I have seen none of my WU's in this control batch error out yet. There are 265 WU's IN PROGRESS on my systems at this time. If successfully completed, they are all expected to transition to PENDING VALIDATION. So, time will tell where things go from here,. |

I only have a only single WU group showing as VALID but the individual members of that group is mixed.
See following: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/765016117 MCM1_9999998_408270 Project name: Mapping Cancer Markers Created: Oct. 21, 2025 - 21:05 UTC Name: MCM1_9999998_408270 Minimum Quorum: 2 Replication: 2 MCM1_9999998_408270_0 Microsoft Windows 10 Core x64 Edition, (10.00.19045.00) Valid 2025-10-22 03:36:44 UTC 2025-10-22 06:20:23 UTC 2.19 / 2.7 67.8 / 67.8 MCM1_9999998_408270_1 Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB x64 Edition, (10.00.17763.00) In Progress 2025-10-22 03:36:40 UTC 2025-10-28 03:36:40 UTC The individual WU showing VALID does have a non-zero GRANTED CREDIT. As I mentioned previously, I do not recall seeing this type of partial validation in the past and not sure if this is by design or otherwise. I was under the impression that if the Minimum Quorum was not met, then the group would not be validated. Notice that the data under Cpu time and Credit columns is blank for the In Progress WU. Which is as expected as that information has not yet been returned from that volunteer's system. But, the same information for the VALID WU is present. For comparison, another WU still showing PENDING VALIDATION is below with data from both members of the group having been returned: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/764698432 MCM1_9999998_102530 Project name: Mapping Cancer Markers Created: Oct. 21, 2025 - 14:33 UTC Name: MCM1_9999998_102530 Minimum Quorum: 2 Replication: 2 MCM1_9999998_102530_0 Microsoft Windows 11 Professional x64 Edition, (10.00.26100.00) Pending Validation 2025-10-21 15:05:26 UTC 2025-10-21 15:13:13 UTC 0.13 / 0.13 9.1 / 0 MCM1_9999998_102530_1 Microsoft Windows 10 Professional x64 Edition, (10.00.26200.00) Pending Validation 2025-10-21 15:05:24 UTC 2025-10-21 15:40:22 UTC 0.23 / 0.23 9.5 / 0 No recent MCM errors at my system has been reported. I have a total of over 4330 MCM WU's pending validation. I hope the information is useful and if there is any other information you would have liked me to include let me know. THANKS for the progress! |

I think the scheduler is a bit busy now. Most of the time there is no problem, but from time to time the response to a request is:
Scheduler request failed: Error 408 |

Quote taken from the Jurisica update (dated 18th Oct) "We have written and are testing a batch applier that collects successful validation events on each partition, and batch updates the BOINC database so that the transitioner and scheduler can work together to evaluate the state of those workunits. Once we are confident the batch updates work as expected from the applier, users should start seeing workunits pending validation clear to valid."
----------------------------------------Thus, it looks like that WU's aren't (as yet) being validated - but, in due course, they will be... ![]() |

Unfortunately, as reported by several users, the current mass of MCM1 work seems to be producing some bad validation-related entries in the database, including cases where one result is marked Valid (and probably has the claimed credit granted (see below) whilst the other is still Pending Validation. I'm not sure whether the transitioner might spot that at some point and mark an error, but it's not a valid workunit/record state!
And as for the claimed credit -- one of my systems seems to have ended up with a 202.5 credit claim for the normal-length tasks instead of a far more reasonable 80 to 85! I hope these things turn out to be code bugs rather than a side-effect of some [accidental?] interference with BOINC's normal processing sequences for returned work[*1], as the code in places like the transitioner and the wrapper programs for validation and assimilation is interlinked in all sorts of ways... Cheers - Al. *1 Standard BOINC validator will tag the [two] validated results as Valid and mark the WU as ready for assimilation, whilst setting the "next transitioner check time" of the WU to a value designed to tell the transitioner to ignore the WU! It is then up to the assimilator logic (which can be a null action as far as individual records are concerned) to mark the WU as potentially ready for deletion and set a more normal check time. |

Haven't seen such a case as below recently.
workunit 765521464 MCM1_9999998_881285_0 Linux Fedora Error 2025-10-23T04:25:52 2025-10-23T04:28:00 0.00/0.00 0.0/0.0 Where in both cases the message sounded "WU download error: couldn't get inpu t files". Adri PS I had to insert a space into the word 'input' to get this accepted, else it was Forbidden. |
