Adri,
Good detective work. I've just done a follow-up test where I put some italicized text (in order to get a legitimate trailing square bracket) and immediately followed it by some text in brackets. Forbidden. However, when I removed the parentheses and tagged the formerly-bracketed text as bold it allowed it to preview! And if '[' follows ')' with only white space between that passes too! So, as you say, it's definitely something to do with parentheses (in a context where they might appear to be wrapping a function's parameters?). I can't remember whether I've ever made a post in the past that would have caused this to happen -- I do know that I have nested bracketed phrases in the past without problems (but that wouldn't put a closing bracket straight in front of an opening one...) Fortunately, it is an issue that isn't likely to affect many people :-) Cheers - Al. |

New update from the WCG team:
October 15, 2025 Testing the validators right now, been a lot of iterations on these. As soon as the validator works, we will deploy across the six partitions and clear the backlog. Then we can check the transitioner interaction. If that is all good, we can finally start sending new work. Going to finalize object storage for the archive - instead of previous tape backup. |

Thank you for posting the update Grumpy Swede.
This one sounds good. I've got a day of backup project queued, and I'm going to stop getting new tasks, and hope that I'll have some WCG to run in 24 hours. Keep an eye on WUs that need to be validated and WUs that need to be transitioned and let me know if any of you see any change. Let me know if you see proof of progress. So far no change for me. |

I do not think anything will happen to the public facing side of BOINC, before next week at best. I believe they will use this coming weekend, to continue testing the validators and the transition function.

I've got a day of backup project queued, and I'm going to stop getting new tasks, and hope that I'll have some WCG to run in 24 hours. I strongly doubt we'll get any new work before Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Actually, if I try to be as optimistic as I only can, I don't think the chances for new tasks next week are better than 50:50. Not one single WU has been validated so far, so they are stil testing the validators. Once that is completed, they will start testing the transitioner and than, if that works as expected, they will start sending out new work.![]() |

Have they actually *tested* they can create and send out new work?

Have they actually *tested* they can create and send out new work? According to the message from October 3, 2025 "initial releases of batches will be intermittent", so I guess this test we will see live.![]() |

My bet is it will be another week still. Maybe if we get lucky they will be up and running by Halloween.

I'm running my backup project again. It is Friday, so I'm guessing we won't see anything move until at least Monday.
This line in the last update caught my attention "a lot of iterations on these." It acknowledges that work is happening without measurable progress. We ask for frequent updates, but what do they say when they are still working on the same problem as the last update?? I like that they gave us the sequence of events that will happen. Sending my best wishes to the Tech team. |
