That's good news (I think!) -- care to share a few WU IDs ? Here are a couple:https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/765697474 MCM1_9999996_47561_0 Microsoft Windows 11 Valid 2025-10-23 09:46:26 UTC 2025-10-23 09:48:34 UTC 0.02 / 0.02 1.6 / 1.6 MCM1_9999996_47561_1 Microsoft Windows 11 Valid 2025-10-23 09:46:28 UTC 2025-10-23 09:49:22 UTC 0.02 / 0.02 0.2 / 1.6 and https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/765697291 MCM1_9999996_46524_0 Microsoft Windows 11 Valid 2025-10-23 09:46:29 UTC 2025-10-23 09:48:37 UTC 0.01 / 0.01 0.9 / 1.6 MCM1_9999996_46524_1 Microsoft Windows 11 Valid 2025-10-23 09:46:25 UTC 2025-10-23 09:48:34 UTC 0.02 / 0.02 1.6 / 1.6. I had five early true validations amongst the [many] original short-run tasks I got but I'm hoping Mark (or someone else) might have some for normal-length tasks (optimistic, me?). I've not seen one yet :-( And here are a couple of normal-length tasks that have validated properly:https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/765579448 MCM1_9999998_949156_0 Microsoft Windows 11 Valid 2025-10-23 06:40:18 UTC 2025-10-23 09:15:03 UTC 0.78 / 0.81 202.5 / 142.9 MCM1_9999998_949156_1 Microsoft Windows 11 Valid 2025-10-23 06:40:25 UTC 2025-10-23 09:09:14 UTC 1.16 / 1.17 83.3 / 142.9 and https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/765579388 MCM1_9999998_948813_0 Microsoft Windows 11 Valid 2025-10-23 06:40:24 UTC 2025-10-23 09:09:14 UTC 1.14 / 1.16 82.6 / 96.8 MCM1_9999998_948813_1 Microsoft Windows 11 Valid 2025-10-23 06:40:08 UTC 2025-10-23 10:00:36 UTC 1.13 / 1.17 111.1 / 96.8. I've stopped getting WUs. I had a nice run of testing WUs which I've tried to claim the very silly amount of 202.5 credit for no matter if they are a normal sized WU or a really short couple of second long one. None of my WUs from this testing phase has been validated yet.

So, here is a breakdown of what we have seen after a few days. Sample size is just under 10,000.
Valid results: <1% (0.74%). About 31% of valid results are "full size" work units (best I can tell). The rest are either no credit or ~8. All others are pending validation. |

215 test tasked crunched. Only 3 valid, (2 shorties and 1 full size). The rest "Pending Validation"
----------------------------------------Now though, it's Sahara time. Last task received 2025-10-23 08:40:56 UTC. [Edit 2 times, last edit by Grumpy Swede at Oct 23, 2025 6:34:53 PM] |

Now getting test WUs ending in a 6 - 9999996 short ones. under a minute.
----------------------------------------edit to add https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/765697944 I'm still claiming wild high credit for seconds worth of work. my wingman claimed reasonable credit. [Edit 2 times, last edit by Unixchick at Oct 23, 2025 7:24:28 PM] |

Seeing those as well. Is it me, or do these have a higher memory footprint? I can't recall the memory footprint of the typical MCM1 work units. |

Yup, a full storm of "9999996" shorties. Some of them validate almost immediately. Something the "normal" runtime test tasks certainly don't.
----------------------------------------Edit: No wild high credit claim for any of them. Edit 2: And among those "9999996" shorties, there is also normal runtime "9999996" tasks. That's an interesting mix within the "9999996" batch. [Edit 4 times, last edit by Grumpy Swede at Oct 23, 2025 7:39:34 PM] |

It would really be helpful if WCG Towers would be a bit more communicative in the current situation about what is going on, in particular about the validation.
It seems to me that those that return "Valid" do so rather at random, and only a minuscule portion of those WUs returned. A lot of guess work, and even more raised expectations by those new to WCG (and then some) that this is "working" again. Which it isn't by a wide margin. I just hope there is some "compensation" for those that are currently crunching and for a large part expect to see some credit being reported for their efforts, or WCG is going to lose even more support. Though I personally suspect that this is just lost hope, considering that not only all the back log from the week or so before the latest migration, but also those couple of months back in 2023, when the system was being restarted after taking over from IBM haven't been credited as promised multiple times. That makes it so hard to trust any of their announcements and predictions... Ralf |

Just looked into it more. The 9999996 tasks have ~double the memory footprint in Linux. Really wonder what is so different about them. I think about the same in Windows but I do not have any of the old tasks on Windows to compare them to.

Well, the 9999996 tasks didn't last long. My last one was received 2025-10-23 19:32:13 UTC. Now it's back to the Sahara climate.
----------------------------------------![]() And after the initial quick validation of a few of the latest ones, no more validations. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Grumpy Swede at Oct 24, 2025 3:22:35 AM] |
