10/3/2025 | World Community Grid | Another scheduler instance is running for this host Let me guess: Server side issue. All of my outstanding work units have been detached according to my results page. I know it is the weekend so the chances of this getting fixed before Monday is basically nil. But with no Computer ID assigned, am I going to need to reset the project and just take the hit on the work? |

New update from the lab:
----------------------------------------"October 3, 2025 We are aware of the issue with the scheduler returning "Another scheduler instance is running for this host" and have identified the cause in the config.xml template we adapated for the new containerzied environment. We will fix it once we have confirmed that the new event-driven validation and assmilation pipelines are working correctly. Uploads are being processed normally, we've confirmed the new architecture for the containerized file_upload_handler pool behind Apache is correctly producing to the per-application Kafka (Redpanda) topics, storing the event and result data in separate queues on the local brokers partition. As a result, there will be at least one more weekend sprint. Tentatively, we expect to be producing new workunits next week for MCM1, ARP1, and MAM1 beta version 7.07, validations should resume over the weekend, initial releases of batches will be intermittent." ![]() |

I'm holding off on returning most of my completed units until the handful on one machine turn valid. I'd hate to send them all home to only find out next week that there was a configuration problem and they had all ended up in the special filing system labeled B1N. Then you can wait a long time. Nothing is going to be validated when it is not "reported"...Ralf I'm patient, been waiting a month so a few days more wont be a problem. I wont get any prize for being first to have units validated, so have nothing to lose by making sure the first few process ok before sending the rest home. |

Hey man, I've posted similar stuff in the past about my disappointment here and you responded to my thread so I'll do the same. You contribute way to much to leave. For every issue you have about how things could improve, I have one also. I harp on COMMUNICATION IS FREE. It doesn't sink in. Anyone remotely familiar with this project could not expect a weekend changeover. No way that could happen even if things went perfect and they never do. This project can not afford to pay a team to come in and do it in 2 days. Why WCG didn't just plan on at least 3 weeks and tell us they will update us every Tuesday and Thursday no matter what and more often if needed, I don't know. Some would still not like it but it is much better to under promise and over deliver than the reverse. Why can't WCG chose Unixchick or someone, or a couple to actually talk to and have them provide updates? It's FREE. Had they done that, odds are a much more realistic time line would have been given and tell the big users that they should plan on at least 2 weeks of down time and we'll try to give you at least a 3 day notice when things will be back up for sure. Still not everyone would be happy but I think the majority would understand. I do agree though that the lack of communications and planning shows little respect for those of us who do a lot of work. When they don't communicate effectively, even when its free is simply poor management. I think it will be another week to get the bugs worked out. Hope you decide to stick around, I like reading your posts.

your lucky to get a once a week post. Come to Rosetta. Total blackout there. They had a change to their IPV address and we had to figure it out ourselves. If you write to the Baker lab its one way into the trash or deleted, who knows.
At least here they keep you updated, maybe not every day, but do you want communication or every minute spent trying to chase gremlins so you can get crunching again? You chose. What are they going to tell you today that is important that is different than last week other than bury you in tech talk that you don't understand anyway. And what are they going to say? We tried x,y and z and that didn't work so we need to do a,b and to try and get it to work? I'm sure they would rather be doing routine work than fight with code and machines 8-12 hrs a day 5 days a week. So they are trying. We just have to wait and there might be bugs once we get started again. Who knows. |

hello, me too i got for so many days the message Another scheduler instance is running for this host, iremoved and installed boinc at least 50 times, any suggestion? You shouldn't have removed and reinstalled BOINC, as it's a server side issue which is being worked on. It's part of the issues encountered in migrating to the new environment. Once resolved on the server side you won't see this error.
