What hardware are you guys using?

I'm just a little curious about what hardware you are all running?

Personally I started with a 24-core HP DL585 G2 with four Opteron 8435 processors, which I bought used 8 years ago now. I ran that for a few years, powered it off for a few years due to power consumption and other priorities.

At the moment of typing this I have a Fujitsu Primergy RX200 S8 with two Xeon E5-2680V2 processors, giving it 40 threads.
Two HPE DL380E, each running a 16-thread virtual machine with a pair of Xeon E5-2450V2 processors.

There's also a couple of fairly mediocre 10-ish year old core-i7 based office computers, and a 10th gen. i5-based Intel NUC I run from time to time. (i7-4790K, i7-970 and i5-10210U)

All of these machines together still use less power than the old DL585 did alone. It's the only server I've had turn the power cords warm to the touch under full load, haha!

Not that any of this is really relevant to anything, but it's fun to compare hardware and see how things perform. :)

Re: What hardware are you guys using?

I'm just using my mac mini. I have a few more machines I could add, but I'll wait until the added devices bug is fixed, and they have more WUs flowing.

Re: What hardware are you guys using?

Im running 6 used Supermicro CSE-113 used servers. All are using xeon 2690v2 Cpu's and 8gb memory. I had to modify them from passive cooling to much larger coolers because i run them at 100%.

Re: What hardware are you guys using?

I've been a member since 2007, and have used a wide variety of bought and home built PCs. Currently I am using
an old HP Pavilion 6200-MT with an i7-2600K (completely stock bios) 4/4
home-built i7-4790K 4/4
home-built AMD FX-8350 8 cores
home-built AMD Ryzen 7-2700 8/16

two of them also have old Nvidia GPUs ( 660Ti and gtx 1030) for the CUDA co-processors too.

So I have at least 40 tasks running, 24/7. Havent seen much CUDA ativity recently. BOINC is the only research I am contributing to.

All normally run Linux, but currently the Pavilion is running Windows 11 (with BOINC also) because my wife is working on a project and she hates Linux...

Not surprised you had to upgrade the coolers for those. I have run some Xeon 2670's which did OK on stock coolers, but those 2690's draw more juice. Old but reliable.
Cheers

Re: What hardware are you guys using?

@BobbyB
Out of curiosity what mother board a using with your 3900X? I am using a Asus X570-PLUS (WI-FI) needs changing as has couple of defects issue with one M2 slot & BIOS update problems past version 4022 released 2021/12/14.

On a complete side note you are lucky to get work from Rosetta they hardly have anything these days

I am using a Ryzen 9 3900X 12/24 processor 24GB 3200 BOINC client version is 7.20.2 Windows 11 professional

Re: What hardware are you guys using?

I'm using an ASUS Prime B550M-K. (no wi-fi) but I probably don't have the same requirements as you. Yours is Win11 so this must mean you are using it for other than WCG.

It has a basic old graphics card. Could have gone headless but I prefer not to. Built just to crunch.

Rosetta is just a sprinkle. Their stuff requires some sort of a virtual machine or something. Not interested so I just get the old stuff. Turned off right now but when on it is only on the i7-3770.
