Sgt.Joe: Could not resist. as long as you are willing to pay for the electricity, more power to you you In context of the thread, is that an intentional pun?Yes, it is more or less an intentional pun. It is such a common expression I put in in without even thinking, noticed it, and just decided it fit in more ways then one. Hope you didn't groan too much. Cheers

Appreciated the pun over here -- and thanks all for the advice and thoughts!
In regard to the SCC tasks seeing a benefit from Linux computation, I didn't know that but I do see them complete 2-3x as quickly as some of the MCM tasks I get. I don't have Windows times to compare that to since all of the crunchers I'm paired up with for verification are of course also Linux systems. Glad to be here! |

Currently running a first gen Threadripper with max cores. I used to run two, but my house got way too hot.
After the first generation, AMD kept raising the price and releasing spare parts as Threadrippers long after the next generation of consumer chips had been developed, or even released. So it's never seemed like the right time to upgrade. Here's hoping they break that pattern with the 7000 series. I could use an efficiency boost. |

Just for fun, I did one MCM1 task on my older than old Windows XP (32-Bit) computer, with an Intel(R) Celeron(R) M370 processor 1.50GHz, single core CPU. Still working fine, but very ineffective. Now it's back again into storage, where it will stay for another year or so

I would have thought it would have taken even longer. Intereresting. Cheers

It has been stated before that Linux is much more efficient with SCC than Windows so you should get some benefit from that. In regard to the SCC tasks seeing a benefit from Linux computation, I didn't know that but I do see them complete 2-3x as quickly as some of the MCM tasks So are we saying here that we should have our Linux systems prefer SCC over MCM? Or just let them be. |

Or just let them be. There is no harm in just letting them be. But , as I see it, to get the most bang for the buck I have SCC on the Linux systems and MCM on the Windows system. Although, right now, it appears they have halted SCC distribution. Cheers

That is if I can get one, and if I can get one which isn't one of the broken ones.Edit, added: Just got one working SCC. https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/312026109 By the initial looks of how it's running, this is going to be a painful experience for my old XP Laptop. ![]() Edit 2: As expected, it sure was painful. It took 11+ hours to crunch that SCC task. But the old dinosaur made it: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/312026109 [Edit 3 times, last edit by Grumpy Swede at Jun 3, 2023 7:04:31 AM] |
